idgaf why you started doing crossfit, but to ignore their salesmanship and pressure on people to join is being intellectually dishonest

that's why people call it a "cult"

also most infomercials I see are very cultish, especially that one. What exactly sold you?

You know what, you OT ballers are right. No one would ever want to be as athletic or aesthetic as those guys.

99.9% are on juice... Don't get me wrong it still takes hard work and a clean diet to have bodies like that, but don't kid yourself about them not juicing...

I agree with you and actually get it. Those type of gyms are set up well to help motivate you to get off your arse and work hard. A lot of the people stay loud and active with it because it keeps their mindset right to keep going...it's just annoying

Honest question because I don't know: Are those rotating pull ups something that is taught within the cross fit routine? You know the pull ups that use a shitload of momentum?

Hipsters are some of the most pathetic groups of individuals in this country. It's pretty comical

hell p90x for most ppl is the anti-cult, i do it alone at 6 on the morning

i think the whole beachbody thing was designed to do it at home to fit a busy schedule, but i've seen group workouts at places like gold's gym

i never liked the gym setting or working out with a group. even when i was in school and played ball and HAD to lift/work out i felt distracted if i was with a group.

i may give crossfit a try one day, trouble is most of the ppl i know that do it fit that cult mold, i need to throw it down with LE

I'll say crossfitters are worse... because everyone who does crossfit is SUPER in to crossfit.

Not everyone who's a "hipster" is really hipstery... Like I'm sure everyone has a friend or two who they make fun of for being a hipster, but deep down you know they aren't REALLY a hipster.

Kipping pull-ups are something they recommend doing when pull-ups are in the WOD.

Today had 3 sets of 20 pull-ups around a 12-10-8 deadlift/clean rotation.

If you're in BR (not sure about NOLA) you could have had 5 free crossfit classes at any CF gym in BR in the month of July. They called it the fitness crawl to give people a taste of CF workouts to see if it interested you.

You still have a chance for 3 days free if you so choose.

yea they are taught. WE also do strict pullups as well.

there's a great debate to whether the other ones are dangerous are not. Im not the lightest dude(about 208), so im pulling a little bit of weight. Ive never felt anything abnormal doing them TBH

Yeah I was just curious because I had never seen these until cross fit came out. I guess I can see them within a back workout day, but to me it just seems like an easier pull up. Is there any extra benefit to it? Other muscles being utilized?

This goes for you too LSUalum since I know you're knowledgeable about these workouts.

I am not a hipster, but I do the latter. I don't post workouts, refer to them as WODs, when people ask where I have been I say "the gym", and I have yet to have a single injury because I have been slow to increase weight on the bar and have listened to instructors who are extremely knowledgable and have had much more than a weekend of training.

There are definitely people who fit the "cult" description, and they are just as annoying as the P90X commercials that I wake up to every morning because I fell asleep with the tv on again.

It makes pull-ups much easier if you are proficient at kipping. It brings traps more into play, too.

I jumped off one workout after 30 pull-ups and my forearms were pulsing in pain, as well.
