I was back in BR for every big game and regularly wore LSU gear around campus. Aside from when LSU played in Oxford, I think I went in the stadium 3 or 4 games throughout 4 1/2 years. To this day it still blows my UM friends how I could not cheer for my alma mater.

I dig it. I could probably count on both hands the amount of times I actually went out to bars in BR in high school. So, there was some excitement to that for me in college. I'd say I'm friends with a few people from high school still, but in general just about everything in my life was different from high school to college. All of that said, there's no way I would have enjoyed my experience had I not made the effort to meet new people at LSU and do new things.

Totally understandable, as long as you don't regret your school decision then you made the right call. It's not like there's a right or wrong answer to the thread.
what school and year did you graduate?

It's basically kids who want to leave home, but who can't get in to any actually impressive schools, and so they just have mommy and daddy pay their out-of-state fees.

ahh ok, I was Dunham 07 so I'm sure we either know each other or have some common friends

I grew up in south Mississippi. Most of my school went to the Big 3 state schools or South Alabama. I had no real allegiances to anything. Checked out LSU for spring testing and that was that. Had two friends from my high school who went to LSU as well which I thought was perfect. Glad I didn't go to 13th grade as well. Those people seem to be still hanging out with each other so I wonder if they made many new friends in college at all.
Me and Teddy are in the same boat. Southern Miss would have been 13th grade for me. I had to get out of state and see new people.

Generalized statement is generalized.

This is cute. Actually I strongly considered LSU at one point and my parents encouraged me to go else where for new experiences. So there goes that theory

I know exactly where yall are coming from.
I've been to every Bama home game since '94.
Both my parents are alumni, donors, actively involved with the school.
I knew tons of people of people who went there obviously.
Everyone expected me to go there.
And that's exactly why I didn't.

When I'm older I want to make as much money as I can so my child can go to school out of state if they want to. Why do people act like this is such a bad thing? Seems like a silly thing for people to get mad about.

You weren't smart enough to get it waived?

Bama is a lot for out-of-state, but of the 10 kids from my graduating class that went to Bama, 8 of us got great scholarships. Bama actually offered me a better deal than LSU could, including TOP. While not all kids have the opportunity, a lot of the private-school NOLA and BR kids with great academics but maybe not the money to attend Vandy or Georgia, such as myself, got offered a great deal at Bama
