Southwest could only fly so far without needing a connecting flight or stopover. It was put in as part of the creation of DFW airport and it's use as a hub.

Limited the distance a commercial flight could go out of Dallas Love Field. Limited SWA to states bordering TX with a few other destinations. SWA will start ramping up service to DAL

Will be a great thing for southwest, unfortunately love field is limited in gate space so the expansion can only be so much

More about efficiency of service than expansion. SWA will cut out some marginal destinations that have been kept for Wright purposes and will now fly direct. Some airports like Lubbock probably will go by the wayside.
When Denver International opened Stapleton Airoprt was closed and everything literally drove over to the new airport in convoy, SWA couldn't compete on a more favorable footing, which made the majors happy, kept gate fees high and the old airport was auctioned off to developers.

Not sure how accurate that is. Have you ever walked down the "unused side" to the Delta gates? They could easily expand that.

It is limited by an agreement that saw the end of the current rules, 20 or 22 gates, SWA has all but 2 of them and the other two are being bid out.

It means more flights/longer flights.

So those cracks in the Southwest fuselages should start causing planes to break up mid flight.

Sorry wish I had found the link to the gate number, but yeah it's 22 gates once the eight additional gates open in October. Southwest has a mini monopoly of DAL

It means the sheeple can continue to be treated to the cattle car experience for basically the same price they would pay to fly on any other major airline

For the record, delta and united are expanding their service at DAL too.
