My twins were born prematurely. Both weighed 3+ pounds. Were in NICU for a couple of months. Wife stayed with them. 8 days old nurse calls me at home. Daughter is doing badly. Scared she’s not gonna make it.
She is lifeless, lost all color, and electrolytes flushed from her body.
Got to the hospital and she is gray color and lips were kinda green. She had a heartbeat but wasn’t responding to much. They put her on different IV and she started coming around.
We were scared silly. They found she had a seizure and brain bleed at some point. The clot was at base of her skull and fluid was building up on her brain. After a few days the fluid starts to disperse. Found she had mild case of cerebral palsy though.
Just heard from her in past few minutes. She’s 16 now and at state competition at LSU. FFA vet science and they won first. She’s overcome a lot. Really strong kid. Getting misty here.

Where do you come up with this shite?

Wife woke up in a pool of blood , she was pregnant at 23 weeks gestation. Rushed her to the hospital, the nurse freaked out worse. Three days later with her heavily sedated, I didn't leave the room and didn't sleep, she had our first child. He was born alive which was a miracle by itself, he only had 5% chance being born alive.
We knew his chances of living long were not good.
A week later he lost fight .
I realized that one pound baby boy had more strength and courage than I had ever had and then realized he already had taught me more about becoming a man than I ever would have was terrifying.

Walked up on a murder scene. I work for a sheriff's Dept. and was assisting another agency with a donkey that had gotten loose. Once we got the donkey back into the yard we noticed the front door cracked open to the home. We approached the residence and once we got close you could see the boot and lower leg of a man lying in the floor. Obviously this was strange so we opened the door all the way and found this to be a very very gruesome homicide. The man had been bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat by his son.
We obviously weren't prepared for something of this magnitude. It was a very eery feeling once we began to clear the residence and secure the scene. Luckily for all involved the boy was not at the home and had already been taken into custody on a separate matter. most cops will tell ya that some things you see will never leave you and this is one of those calls that I could never possibly forget.

Was going to add to this thread, but after reading some of these responses...ya...umm....I'll just consider myself fortunate and move on.

When my daughter was 12 she ran away from home. For about an hour we thought she had been taken.
I don’t wish that feeling for my worst enemy.

I drove a Ford Bronco II off the side of the road into a steep ditch and started flipping while not wearing a seat belt. I was going about 40+ mph (was on 3 different drugs and had been drinking all night and driving in a thick fog), and saw my life flash before my eyes in a split second. Was also terrified in that split second. I was tossed around the cab like a fricking rag doll and got knocked out. When I came to, a State Trooper was there on the scene to question me, and I was equally terrified he'd find the sheet of acid I had somewhere in the now mess inside the vehicle. It looked like you took everything inside the vehicle and just started tossing it over the inside in all directions.
Two things came from that: 1. to this day, I have no idea why I didn't get a DUI that night 2. I have worn my seatbelt every time I drive from that point on. Getting sober came much later unfortunately.

Had a total power outage when I was a kid and this caused our garage door to stay open overnight, as well as no alarm system or phones or anything(Only my dad had an old Nokia cell phone and it was dead).
My sister told our parents she saw someone upstairs and my dad didn't believe her but checked it out. Since there was no lights and it was at night my dad went up there with a flashlight and a handgun. This was the first time I was ever made aware my dad had a gun in the house.
Sure enough someone was up there in our game room. If the guy was armed he did not draw his gun and just threw his hands up. My dad told him he has 5 seconds to get the frick out or he is shooting him, since we had no way of calling the cops or anything. My dad led the guy out at gunpoint and he ran as soon as he hit the door.
The rest of the night I slept next to my dad on the floor in my parents room and did not sleep one second, terrified someone else would break in. If we weren't leaving for a vacation the next morning, I for sure would have gone a few days without sleep I was that terrified.
Also, was riding Titan at Six Flags over Texas and it got stuck on the lift hill and we had to walk all the way down the stairs after being stuck for about 45 minutes. frick that. frick that to hell. frick being stuck in a coaster car 200 feet in the air wondering if you will roll backward. frick the stairs on the way down because the handrail is not that high at all and you can see through the grate steps below. frick that to hell.

1) Arriving at my father’s home after he shot himself and watching the helicopter take off.
2) We were at an outdoor event and our friend’s 2.5 yr old toddler wandered off; they noticed the absence almost immediately. Everyone was running and looking. Babe was found floating in a cold lake, not breathing, the father’s wails of despair are unforgettable. CPR was given, baby left in a helicopter breathing but hypothermic. The kid will fully recover. That was pure terror followed by indescribable relief.
ETA: Flight paramedics
They see the most traumatic shite, everyday.

Lots of things come to mind, but I suppose one of the biggest was the time I was doing a penetration dive on a wreck about 90' feet down and got hung up moving through a doorway into another area of the ship.

Got caught in a lucid dream once. Knew I was dreaming, knew which way I was laying. Kept pinching myself, hitting walls, screaming and couldn't wake up. Was at the gates of heaven and the archangel looked at me and said, "you wait over there". Everyone else was going in. I was in a panic mode for a longgggg time. Woke up totally drenched in sweat. Decided never to lucid dream again. And I haven't.

Per the AP Style Book the correct term is Baby Mama

I was walking up a nature trail at Oak Mountain in 1994 with the lady I was dating at the time. I was a couple of paces in front of her and oddly enough literally one step from placing my foot right it the face of an oncoming 6 foot or so Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake crossing over the path. He and I literally almost collided. That mofo was huge!!! I froze and knew exactly what type of snake it was immediately. He apparently didn't give a damn about me and even when he slithered to a safe distance we just stood there and took in the moment. We turned around to go report it to the park office and as we were walking to the car we looked at eachother and said almost together..."Neither of us are going to believe this actually happened in a few years!"
To this date I can go to a zoo, look at other snakes, and be fine. I get to the diamondbacks, no pun, but they rattle me too much. Can't do it!

When I got stuck in an elevator at the MSY airport. Finally got the car moving after fooling around with the electronic panel.
