Here’s my opinion that no one asked for.

If there is a reason for a statue, like they are from the town or something important happened there, the statue makes sense.

An example would be a statue of Lee in Antietam or Stonewall Jackson in Chancellorsville. Those statues would make sense and have historical significance

If they’ve never been to your state or city and did nothing significant there, the statues are an obvious provocation and I don’t care if they are removed.

An example would be the statue of Robert E Lee in Dallas that was removed. He never went to Dallas and never did anything significant there, so why is there a statue of him?

probably because the Texans revolted against Mexico for many of the same reasons the South seceded, he was probably revered

love how all these idiots who would be too chicken shite to ever stand up for anything themselves get all bowed up and bragging about something they never had anything to do with.

The biggest draft riots in the history of the country were in New York in the 1860's because the pieces of shite running the union army were drafting saps right off the boats from Ireland because their native borns were too chickenshit to sign up.

Of course I am glad slavery is over. But America would be better off today if the belief in states rights was more prevalent.

The federal government is WAY too big. They should only be involved in defense, interstate travel, and foreign policy. Everything else should be the business of each state. The average citizen is far too removed from some dipshit in Washington DC. If things were more local, or at least state run, we would have a better chance of our wishes being carried out.

Again slavery is a horrible institution and I am glad it is over in our country, even though it still exists in many parts of the world.

the slavery that existed in the US was but a fraction of the scale, in numbers and duration, that was present before, during, and after, we just get the bad rap for it

That’s quite different and you know it.

I’m not hating on every Robert E Lee statue or saying the man was some horrible person.

My comment is that it makes sense to have confederate statues in places where they are from or where they did important things but I understand why people wouldn’t want them where they didn’t live or do important things

It really only comes up because people want our money.

Nobody tries to extort the British when they controlled slavery in the US for far longer.

1640-first slave comes to America
1781-America defeats Britain in the Revolutionary war.
(British were in control for 141 years).

America only had slaves for 80 years (1781-1861) when civil war started.

And there is no mention of who sold the slaves to white people. That would be Africans capturing and selling their neighbors on the beaches. Certainly they should be held to account, except those people dont have any money so there is noting to get from them.

The reparation people also never say anything about slavery that currently exists in the world.

yep, after the war, this guy advocated for civil rights, was a major contributor to infrastructure improvements in nola and helped invent the street car line…

Taking down the PGT equestrian monument in front of City Park was an absolute disgrace. He was from here and did a lot for the city. Same goes for taking down the Davis statue. He died here and had friends and a big presence here particularly after the War.

Back to the OP, there is still a prominent Confederate monument in Oxford, MS right on the town square. The Union Army burned Oxford in 1864.

It’s true. Lived there for six years.

The CSA trooper was still standing atop his pinnacle facing down the invaders when we left.

They offered peaceful secession, and thought they had a valid legal case even thought the Constitution was silent on it. They offered to pay their states' share of the national debt, and offered recompense for all federal property within their states.

They were really bad at being traitors.

On an unrelated note, are all Arkansas fans familiar with the flavor of penis?
