Looking to get the kids a dog and was wondering what everyone thought was the best breed to be around young children. Thanks.

Golden Retriever

This should be the end of the thread. Small dogs aren't good for kids. Goldens have the perfect temperment.

australian shepherd would be a good pick and not a bitch dog like a golden doodle

Getting my kid a golden doodle for Christmas.

But in general, I think any non-shedding dog is the way to go.

Pretty much any water dog breed is a good choice

Golden retriever is a good family dog, but they shed like crazy.

Standard poodle is good if you or the kids have allergies.

Agree unless the kids are small simply because a large dog will knock them over without trying.

This^^ my almost 3 year old son climbs, pulls, and jumps on my Golden constantly. He’s never once even thought about snapping at him either. They’re such good family dogs but they shed like there’s no tomorrow.

Boykin Spaniel. Had mine for 17 years and never even heard it growl. Most gentle breed ever developed.

Golden’s are the perfect family pet as far as temperament. Just gentle. Shedding is an issue but the sweet nature can’t be beat.
