30 follow the pattern of incorrect answers.
dglen, what do you think?

Probably something stupid like 96

8+11+21(previous answer)
If you add the previous answer to the problem you get the answer.
Tbh 96 didn't come to me at all until others said it then I instantly got where they are coming from.
Like I said, it's a problem you can get multiple answers and be right. Then argue about which answer is the "genius" answer via sharing/commenting, this generating money off of the huts for the person who posted it

t all depends on how you look at it.
You can look at it from a strict 8+11=19 approach and be right.
You can look at the short pattern and get 40 and be right.
Or you can see the long pattern and get 96 and be right.
It's ambiguous nature coupled with multiple correct answer and willingness for humans to defend their "right" answer against others "wrong" answers are why these types of questions get passed around on Facebook.
Meanwhile the person who started the 200k shared post gets a nice little check from Facebook for all the traffic and runs off to the bank not giving a frick
All this.

It is indeed 96.
Multiply the first two numbers and add the first number to the the product to get the answer.

It's definitely the pattern, but I read the pattern using a different theory. Of all the answers, on of us is correct.

96 is the better answer. The problem with 40 is that there's no predecessor equation before the first one to start it off, which makes the first equation a special case. Not so with 96.

1+4=5 (1×4+1=5)
2+5=12 (2×5+2=12)
3+6=21 (3×6+3=21)
8+11=96??? (8×11+8=96)
Not saying it's the answer, just a pattern I saw. 1st number times the second number, then add the first again.
ETA: Appears I should have read past the first few replies as this has been figuredone out.

Is it really though? You can make cases for all of them. And all of them are wrong (in absolutes) except the answer 19. As 8+11 will always and forever be 19. Now if you take the small as part of the "whole" and start diving into theory on why 40 is the better answer or why 96 is the better answer. It's all for naught. The creator of the question doesn't care. He simply thanks you for your comment/share which contributes to his Facebook check.
It's one big conundrum that will never be "solved" as long as people different opinions
