She is YOUR OWN!!!! You need to start realizing that. You are her daddy and your wife is her momma and no one can change that. being a daddy is more than being biological. You will begin to see this as she gets older and begins to pick up on your personality, humor, and habits. It's all about nurture more than nature. My little girl and boy act just like me and it drives my wife crazy.

THe little girl we adopted was understandably frightened of men, she took to my wife right away, and it wasn't long before she was the same with me, but when it came to my parents she was VERY reluctant around my dad who is a very good man, great with kids, but this little girl was scared b/c of what she went through with her biological father.

Anyway the first time she ran into my dad's arms giggling "papa" at the top of her little lungs was without doubt the most heart warming thing I've ever seen.

See, my BM was just too young to care for me. It wasn't a case where she was on drugs or whatever. Funny enough we are both teachers and are mistaken for siblings more than not.

It drives my half sisters(which we never use that term) and wife ape shite how much we are the alike.

We don't use that term either. This little girl is a daughter , a grand daughter, a sister. PERIOD.

I know two people who were adopted.

One is a guy about my age who was an all-star type of kid. He made all A's, never got into trouble and is now a doctor.

The other is a female who is now in her 30's. She is a beautiful gal, but ran off and got into a lot of trouble in her 20's.

So I guess it can be a mixed bag. As long as you adopt a child without a genetic predisposition to psychiatric issues, you will be alright. And, really, there's no way to know that.
