Columbus Day weekend. Kids out of school Monday. A lot of schools also have a "fall break" at same time so some kids are out Friday, Monday, and even Tuesday.

And Gulf Shores has the Shrimp Festival the next week: slated for Oct. 13-16. That draws a pretty big crowd, plus the weather in early October is usually about as good as it gets there.
