so the louisiana average is 20 and the average in this thread looks to be like 27. that seems pretty reasonable with all the bias that is involved in this informal survey (this thread). i dont get what's so hard to believe

Consider the demographics of the OT though and it's rather reasonable for the mean here to be higher.

that's what im saying. it's probably a surprisingly (or not so surprising) strong white/middle class demographic, which is certainly a higher scoring segment. not to mention the response bias that is inherent in anything like this. people with better scores are more likely to post.

Yeah, I'm not really finding anything incredibly shocking about the claims in this thread.
Only a handful of people claimed scores of 30+ and one of them gave visual proof.

I believe that you meant to type lower. This place is full of inflated and exaggerated life profiles.

I got a 32 and flunked out of college twice
Being smart =/= being a good student
Eta: high school gpa was like a 2.2 IIRC. ACT was the only reason I got into LSU

Ding ding ding.
High school (and therefore the ACT) was easy for me. I got to college, it was hard - and I developed a whopping case of anxiety that went undiagnosed until last semester. I've been a terrible student thanks to the stress avoidance, test anxiety, etc.

yeah, I didn't push myself during college either. didn't care about classes I should have and messed up my GPA when they ended up not letting me drop one i didn't need and quit going to.

Took it three times and I got a 29, then 30, then 31. One point higher and I would've had a full ride to MSU. Still I think anything 30+ is objectively "good."

quote:Do ya'll really not understand why most people who report their scores in these threads say 25+? It's not a random survey. It's an opportunity to brag and the people who have something to brag about do. If the average score reported in this thread is 31 it doesn't mean the average TD user scored a 31. It means the average TD user who wants you to know what their ACT score is a 31 (or close to it. I'm sure there are a few bullshitters.)
I choose to believe that it's not that people are fibbing about their scores, but rather that Tigerdoppings and the OT mysteriously attracts exceptional geniuses to post. Like Pavlov's dogs, hearing a bell rung.

This thing got even better after I went to bed .. Anything over 30 is "good" ? Holy crap ..
do some research and look at the percentile, nationwide, a 30 or higher lands one in ... These threads always turn out the same .. Loaded with gross exaggerations .. and always one or two people riding it all the way through, playing the "I don't think a message board full of 32s is that hard to believe!" card to add credence to their already inflated score they posted ..
The people coming out of nowhere, with 2.2 high school GPAs that hit a 32, only to flunk out of college are nice touches too .., The extent some people go to to convince others they are telling the truth are hilarious too .. Of course, some take it way farther than others ...
When you fabricate on a message board and then get upset on said board at strangers calling BS on you .. you're making it obvious that you're lying ...

Considering I walked out on half the science section and got a 29... I would say a 30 or above is a good score.

This was me fwiw. I graduated with a 2.54, and took a lesser job than I could have received based on my intelligence. That being said, I've been KILLING it over here, and I'm already apart of meetings with the top people. I specialized in a unique field and when I pass my CPA, I already have a soft offer of 80k.
The best advice I can give is work your arse off when you get out of school.

Took it drunk, got 26, got tops, done.

I would agree. I made a 25 on it in 1997 and that was good enough for me. Really it is only about getting into college. After that you are back to square one and no one cares what you made. IE it doesn't matter. Same goes with college GPA once you get a job no one cares. The ACT is a means to and end and if a 23+ will get the job done and land you in a state college then i think you can count any score there or higher a success.

Most of the smarter guys I grew up with got bad grades in college
