My favorite part was watching the people who were really excited about it beforehand try to pretend like it was the coolest shite ever after it was over.

The shared experience across the country and only America got to experience it. For about an hour, nobody gave a shite about statues, being triggered, etc. It wasn't a sporting event where its one side vs. the other. It wasn't some stupid reality show finale. It was something bigger than all of us. Politics aside, even Trump looked insignificant today as he watched. We spend so much time trying to find ways that we are different and for a a few minutes that wasn't the case. All of that other stuff seemed insiginficant.
Then you take into account how a solar eclipse like our's probably pretty (relatively) rare in space due to how the moon fits perfectly over the sun.
It was all so surreal and refreshing.

Thought I was hearing coyotes yip at total eclipse. It was people a quarter mile north celebrating the moment. Ahh, nature.

The totality and hearing crickets in the middle of the day

The experience.
Even without glasses, you can feel the difference. Once you got to significant levels of obscurity, you began to notice a slight change in the light you couldn't put a finger on. Like a passing cloud, and yet it was still bright.
Then you can feel the difference. It was blazingly hot and humid where I was, and almost unbearable to be out in the sun.
Until suddenly, it wasn't. Even though it still looked like noon, it was actually cooler out in the open rather than in the tent.
Looking to the west, you notice the sky starting to darken.
Then it hits you, going from an overcast noon to twilight in a span of 30 seconds or so.
Looking to all horizons is a sunset wherever you look, north, south, east, west.
And all this is without having quality photographic equipment to get the fun stuff.
Folks who saw a partial eclipse and walked away thinking "meh" fail to understand that even a 99% eclipse sky is more than 10,000 times brighter than totality.
Our group was shocked and incredulous when our warning timers of end of totality buzzed. It flew by so fast.

Everything about it.

I thought it was a bit of a let down
I'm glad I'm not you. I couldn't imagine having your personality where I would find the eclipse to be a let down.
