used to be 2-3 threads a week about BitCoin and how it was the wave of the future. what happened?

We're still feeling the negative effects of the exchange regulation decision made by Lawsky and the NY DFS in late July.

Bitcoin will go back up, but this rebound might take another month or two.

Right now its trading at $515.

It's been as low as $390 this year, and recently as high as $800.

Depending on how you look at, this would not be a bad time to buy, if you enjoy the wild ride of Bitcoin speculation.

So many big companies are now accepting it as payment- Overstock, Expedia, etc., and eBay/PayPal is on the way, and as acceptance increases (and it will), you'll see the valuation rebound.

Fair enough, but we already have dollars for that purpose.

None of those companies accept bitcoin.

They provide links to a bitcoin exchange that the buyer sends bitcoin to and the exchange pays those companies in U.S. dollars.

Why does this matter?

I have practically all my assets in real estate, funds, a car, etc. Why would I care where dollars come from provided I can easily get them by selling something?

That's different from saying they accept bitcoin. They don't. They accept U.S. dollars.

I would say "no". They want you to take your Bitcoin and turn it into cash.
