Which honda engines had oil consumption issues?
I have not heard this.

They’re going for $177k in most places. Tax rate here puts it around $200k.
I’d buy another house and rent it out.

Japan in general went from making all the best things to just kinda being around. Sad because the legend was awesome for its time.

Acura 3.7 L V6 Excessive Engine Oil Consumption leads to Extended Warranty
quote:
PSA: Today i received a letter from Acura that current owners of 2010-13 MDX, 2011-12 RL, 2009-14 TL, and 2010-13 ZDX will have their 6 yr/70k mile warranty extended to 8yr/125k for the power train warranty. This is to address excessive oil consumption that is caused my the oil control rings becoming clogged and preventing oil from returning to the crank case.

Not saying it isn't a good car, maybe even a great car but Honda just has a hard time selling them, again they have quietly put a "secret" 20K discount on the 2019s. I think they sold under 200 in the US last year.
Now me personally I think the NSX's main competitor is the 911 Turbo S which is more money as normally specced even without the new NSX discount. I'll take the 911 every day but one thing I like about the NSX (at least the 2017 which is the only one I have driven) is it leans more to oversteer than the 911 which outside the GT cars has a dialed in bit of understeer. The engine in the NSX is also more raucous which is nice much of the time.
PS my note about relaibility don't necessarily apply to the NSX which is still a very reliable "super car" but the 911 Turbo still holds the top spot there along with being one if not the best daily and all weather supercar built.

If by better you mean reliable then no companies are better than Lexus/Toyota & Mazda but there are plenty of cars from other countries more reliable than Nissan/Infiniti and Honda/Acura currently.
That said "better" is subjective.

I got hooked on Acura when I lived in Japan (they weren't called Acura there obviously).I currently own three Acura's (also an Infiniti and a Kia lol). I am a big fan of Acura because they are extremely comfortable, reliable and have quality engines and transmissions. But definitely they lag far behind Lexus and even Infiniti with styling. I'll probably keep buying their mid range sedans for myself.

It depends on the car and year but Acura has had more than it's share of auto tranny issues. Transmission issues plagued the 1st/2nd and early 3rd gen TLs and CLs (no 3G CL). Manuals have all been solid though.

They are bringing back the Type S next year starting with the TLX. The prototype looked pretty sweet - waiting on the performance specs to come out.

Mdx A spec looks pretty sweet.

Acura's biggest issue, much more so than styling, is the reliability has dropped of a cliff in the last 5 years or so, even more so than Honda. They are in a serious corporate-wide crisis.
What’s happened to Honda? Reliability was always a given. My wife’s 2016 Odyssey has been ok but nothing special with reliability. Had a couple things to fix.

It’s amazing that a four door Tesla will be just as fast and much cheaper than a car like the NSX.

I have a MDX.
My wife drove an '03 for awhile. Think we traded it somewhere around 240k miles and still running fine though the interior had been well kidded. I hate to hear they're having issues. The old ones were great.

OP, this is a good thread. I’ve wondered this same question about Acura and Infiniti. Seems like neither is trying to be luxury or interesting, but instead just a slightly more upscale Honda/Nissan. Maybe there’s more money in that segment.

I had a 2004 with over 250k and had to give it up because of transmission issues. I have a ‘12 right now still going strong with 197k and have no real issues with it. The only thing I can complain about is the interiors deteriorating with both models.

Infinity has always seemed second class among the luxury Japanese brands. My limited experience with Acura is that the interiors age very poorly compared to Lexus.

My wife has a 2012 Accord and it's been fine. I've read that they slipped lately though.
