What grinds me gears is people that say those buried in Normandy are the reason for the problems with this country

That includes WWI, The Civil War, Middle East etc...

Those guys gave all, only to be blamed by purple haired socialists.

Most of us veterans served with at least one fellow veteran who made the ultimate sacrifice in addition to family members and the generations of others who served before us. It makes me uncomfortable when people thank me on Memorial Day. But I am glad they are at least acknowledging veterans in general and not just asking me what I am doing for the long weekend. Most of the time I just say "You're welcome" but sometimes I do a little educating depending on the circumstances.

I get the same thing. They are well meaning. I just thank them and let them know it's not for those who made it home alive. It's for those who gave all.

You think a typist is equally as worthy as someone on the battle field?

Yeah, unless we start having separate days for guys who saw direct combat vs those that didn’t.

What Obama said there was G rated compared to what the current one said today
—You mean this part of what Trump said at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier offends you?
“In every hour of peril, in every moment of crisis, American warriors have left behind the blessings of home and family to answer their nation’s call. They’ve offered all that they had within them and given their last breaths to each and every one of us that we might live safe and breathe free.”

As always, nothing mentioned about our fallen. Not surprised though.

We just returned from the service at the DFW National Cemetery. Very moving with bagpipes, 21 gun salute with cannons, flyover and they read the names of the veterans buried there that actually were killed while serving.

So it is a day where no one gets thanks.

Hard to thank a dead person and not make it about yourself.

unlike as seen in the Obama quote where he confused Memorial with Veteran’s day, Trump (as seen in his remarks at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier) knows what he’s talking about.

It’s a day of remembrance of the fallen. It was previously called “Decoration Day,” because the families of the fallen would decorate the graves of those who never came home.

We can appreciate the service of those who served, and should do that every day, but that’s not what Memorial Day is all about.
