No the drop out rates and teen pregnancy rates are the result of institutional racism at LSU

The institutional racism on college campuses is the fact that lower standards exist for admissions and scholarships for students who aren't white or Asian.

I don't think these particular protesters recognize that as a problem.

Institutional racism in university is the process of disallowing a race or making it more burdensome for one race or set of people to gain admission or a diplomat than it is for another set of people.

This does not happen anymore in this country as far as I can tell unless you're talking about historical black colleges, like Xavier in New Orleans, making it much harder for white people to get in.

In fact, it is usually easier to get scholarships and admission based solely on the fact that you're a minority. Often, minorities are given preferential treatment, however, this is not considered institutional racism because most of our laws are not written to create equality among everyone, but rather to protect a "minority" whether it be race, age, religion, sex, whatever.

That's why, for the PSAT for instance, you have to have a much lower score to earn the title national merit semifinalist if you're black that if you're white, which is absurd, because that it literally the government mandating that back people aren't as intelligent.

Feel free to do so, I won't. But why do blacks underachieve in GPA? ACT scores?

1. Because they don't need to score as high to gain entrance to colleges.
2. Because a disproportionate number of African Americans are born into single-parent homes. Single parent verses two parent homes are the single greatest determinant of educational and financial success in life.

Are you really this stupid? Its because their culture does not value education as much as most suburban white cultures do. Nor do they place the same emphasis on it.

Its not that simple
- Link between wealth and college admittance. its real
- We know blacks have lower wealth than whites

Also, the schools that blacks attend are less likely to prepare them for college. They basically suck.

But yep, no institutional racism. its all the black people's fault.

I think this is where we hear: "And we need to spend more money on education"...

You cant educate someone who doesn't want to be educated.

One illustration for how to overcome this that I've been fond of for years is this:

Pretend you're a basketball coach. At point guard you've got two players that virtually the same in every way. Same height, same quickness, same shooting percentage, same defensive stats, etc. essentially the exact same player. One of these two players is your son. Who do you start?

Most people would choose to start their own kid, based on familiarity, innate trust, etc.

So then eventually the other kid comes to you and asks why he isn't starting. After all, he is just as good as your son.

In this situation, the best coach's response I've ever heard was that he's going to start his son because he loves him. If the other kid wants to start he needs to work harder and better himself so that the coach has no choice but to start him over his own son.

That's how change happens, not by telling the decision makers to change how they make the decision, but by going above and beyond the decision maker's expectations to force them to choose you as the obvious better option. It's not easy, and it's not necessarily fair, but nothing in this world is. If you want something in this world, you've got to be willing to do more and go further than the other guy.

It's not institutional racism, it's institutional classism. Like all things in life, you've got to pay to play.

Shhhhhhhhhh. Quit quoting facts that disagree with my outrage. It's the white mans fault and he has to pay for our mistakes.

NONE

It's an elaborate hoax perpetrated by the student body

""

1) The poopswastika (turns out to be a hoax)

2) The study body president's claim of racial slurs (totally fabricated by the same guy who fabricated the KKK claim)

3) The hunger striker (who turns out to be the son of a black man who earned almost $7 million last year, thereby totally disproving the idea that black people can't achieve success in America)
