With all the environmental and global climate talk, you barely hear of local recycling anymore.

Even now, less than 1/3 of people in US recycle.

Have only lived in one city that actually charged every body for it and provided cans. Even then, they stopped taking glass and certain other products.

IDk seems like such an obvious thing to require that is good for everybody when done correctly.

Because only a small percentage of plastic gets recycled well enough to use again and it's not an efficient process to begin with.

Recycling was a scam.

We have "recycling" in BR. We have a separate can for it. 95-100% of it just gets dumped into the landfill though

My city has recycling pickup. I do it. I'm not sure how much good it does. Do they actually recycle much of the glass? I heard the plastic gets sent to China where they burn it for fuel.

We used to sell it to China and they were dumping it in the ocean.

I think a big reason is because China stopped taking our garbage and recycling it.

We still have recycling here but I’ve heard a rumor that the recycle trucks just take everything to the dump with the other garbage. Don’t know why they’d keep that up if true.

I took a shitload of broken down boxes to be recycled and learned they’re not accepted. They are a paper product, so I’m still not sure how that shite works. That was the last time I even attempted to recycle.

I would if they actually came and picked up or had like daily drop offs, not once a month drop offs.

We have brown cans for garbage and blue for recycle. Usually, both cans are dumped into the same truck.

Up through the late 80s/early 90s, there were deposits on glass bottles (return the bottle, get a nickel, dime or quarter back). It worked great and is still done in Europe, The bottles are reused, it certainly kept them out of landfills. We need to do something to discourage the use of plastic bottles, they are ending up in our waterways.

NY was sending it to china on ships. Makes perfect since if you’re a moron. Then they found out the chinese ships were just dumping that shite in the ocean. Go green!

We have full size recycling cans here. Only reason I recycle is so my regular can does not overflow.

Same in my area….when I saw that they were dumping both in the same truck, I stopped separating them.

Some places here do recycled glass bottles. Problem is they charge three times what the equivalent plastic bottles are, and even with the return discount it is still a huge markup. People won't be green until it is made affordable to do so.

I worked on a drillship offshore, and the company made a policy on mandatory recycling. We put out the cans, and implemented the process. Well the crew were throwing dip spit, banana peels, etc. in the recycle bins and it was near impossible to regulate this. Then we send the waste ashore, and lo and behold the waste returns two weeks later all rotted and smelly, because the recycling company won't take it as its tainted. Mind you that the stress one has offshore does not need to take any more stress due to BS.

To get around that and still look like we were recycling, we just took all the recycling waste and added it to general waste and sent it ashore. When the audit team arrived they saw recycle cans everywhere and were like "great job protecting the environment boys! Attaboy!!!"

Then a new coworker gets transferred to my rig who is my relief and a corporate ladder climbing whore. He went nuts when he found out everything was getting thrown away. Notified managers high up, made drama, etc just to look like a model employee. We circle around again to get a recycling vendor and no-one does it. Then one vendor offered to take it but only if we paid an astronomical amount. Management said hell no, and the recycling program was shelved.

Its totally BS.
