As long as you arent dumping grease and/or oil, youre fine dumping it in the sewer. The bugs in the oxidation ditches will handle it fine.

I’ve had someone report me to Jefferson Parish for dumping it down the drains before. The Parish came out and put a sticker next to the drain about not pouring chemicals into the storm drain because it goes directly into the lake. They told me if I did it again I would face up to a $5,000 fine. It is apparently illegal. Tried to explain it was just seasoned water but they didn’t care.

I had a cop stop me one time when I was pouring boil water down the drain. Said he was just making sure it wasn't grease/oil.

If me or the neighbors have any ant piles we pour it over that. Other than that, we just dump it in the ditch.

This is a bunch of BS. All of the reasons they list for not dumping deal with dead crawfish peelings (shells), not the spiced water.
Went through this last year at a crawfish boil for the local chapter of my national professional organization. After me and another old baw cooked all the crawfish, and everyone enjoyed the feast, we had some students help clean up. A couple of them balked at pouring the crawfish water down the storm drain, saying it was "pollution".
I asked them what was in it that was "pollution". Salt, pepper, garlic powder, a few other spices? Sounded pretty organic to me. I also asked them what waterway it was going to? The all-concrete stormwater drainage system of New Orleans and then big ol' Lake Pontchartrain.
We actually changed their mind and they even carried the pots and dumped it for us.

The problem with pouring it down a storm drain is that shite starts to stinking real bad if you don't get any rain.
You're better off just pouring it in your backyard or whatever.

In places that get a lot of snow, how do they convince all the road salt to go into the sewer versus the storm drains?

Well, if you have a truck, dump it in an ice chest, drive down the road, pull plug on said ice chest and drive around for a few minutes. Nobody will know what that is dripping out of your bed.

It's amazing how simple it is.
Is it rainwater? If the answer is no, it shouldn't go into the drains (that lead to the lake).
