I’m fine with people hopping every two years if it’s for more money. I do it too, magic number is 25% and I’m gone

I'll never make much more money than I do now in LA. I'd have to go into management (which I have no desire to do) or move out of state.

I actually think I'd most likely have to take a minor pay cut to change employers.

It depends. Some of our employeees are embedded personnel on sites. I look harshly at job hoppers for those positions because they're 3 year contracts and I want someone that will fulfill the contract.

Employess that aren't embedded I will not look as harshly at job hopping but I will want to hear an explanation for it.

Look at this thread full of management who consider resumes and hire/fire. I second the question of why this idiot can still start threads.

I remember you saying years ago you were a few years away from moving out. Just needed to convince your wife and wait for daughter to get through high school?

it’s a red flag for sure. I’ve hired and fired at least a dozen people over the last 20 years. The job hoppers stick out and almost never work out

My wife and I would like to get out of the heat and hurricanes. Our youngest will be a JR in August.

Changing jobs every 3-5 years is in general an employees best move. I've read studies that say a white collar employee will leave 500k-1mm on the table over the course of a career if they don't change jobs for more pay. Sitting at a job and waiting for an employer to give you a raise for good performance is a fools errand.

That is idiotic considering typical salary progression for the employees that stay put, you're lucky to get 1-2% annual raises but even a lateral move will most likely net a boost of 10% to your salary.

There are a number of reasons that someone might leave a job, I wouldn’t consider it an automatic disqualifier.

We get 3-5% annually. That doesn't keep up with our current inflation but it's been a decent bump over 11 years for me. I got promoted a few times too.

When companies stopped valuing employee loyalty and treating them like disposable commodities the length of employment decreased dramatically.

Not really sure. Trying to get this last kid raised into a productive adult and ship her off to college somewhere first.

6 months. 2 years being a "hopper" is a bit crazy.

In engineering, I usually pass on anyone that jumps from job to job every 2 year especially in their first 10 years of their career. More times than not that person is chasing the dollar and hasn't picked up the necessary skills to be a good designer. They may be a good paper pusher aka "Project Manager".

I have hired a couple because we were in a bind and basically had to start from scratch because they basically didn't learn anything at their previous firms.

I understand in today's age why some are doing it to maximize their income.

I know a guy who never stays in one job. Dude is a CPA in a major city and the longest he has been at any job was 3 years. Someone is always willing to offer more if you have the credentials. He has gone from making 80k a year when he started to 170k now with larger bonus pools.
