You need to look at it with percents, not income.
Top 5% rich (for families this is like 300k+, individuals its like 100k)
Next 20% upper middle calss (for families this is like $130k, for individuals 75k or so)
Next 50% middle class
Next 20% lower middle class
last 5% poor

I'd say they have the potential to be upper middle class if they do the right things with their money.
Yea that was my minimum.

that's why there's really no correct answer to the question in the original post

what dont ya'll get here? Class would have more relevance if ya'll mentioned what type of work you did/job duties or what your dad did NOT how much you make!!!

god this thread is a shite show

True that.
I think of this more as a lifestyle question than one of hard numbers and percentages.

Either
Old money isn't going to include you in their group no matter how you make your cash

Brah the bottom feeders, ie cooks, galley hands, laborers, deckhands and divers are making $60k minimum. There are many many more skilled workers laughing at that number
Ok. Your 75-85% of offshore workers making 6 figures is still absurd.

Top 5% AGI is $155,000. That's family income on a tax return.

I don't consider them different concepts unless you're thinking social class
This. The whole argument is really moot anyway. There are too many factors going into "class" to even accurately quantify it. This is just an entertaining thread to see another example of the ivory tower that is the OT.

Middle class to me implies a certain social class. Median income is purely economic.
This. I know a lot of people with very high incomes (at least relative to the numbers thrown out in this thread) who are decidely middle class.
In my view, the distinction between "upper middle" and "lower upper" is probably best described as this: "upper middle" relies on a paycheck to sustain their lifestyle, whereas the lifestyle of the "lower upper" is not paycheck dependant.

ha. no. upper would have an autonomous job and lower would not

The higher number you give the richer you must be right?

Then I'm done for. If I have to get my hands dirty to make sure a project is completed on time then that is what I do.
I clearly have no class.
