BJJ with pretty much any stand-up discipline will cover everything you need.

MMA from a decent instructor. He/She should be knowledgeable in a mix and best of various fighting technique. I feel like practicing one technique and mastering one is limiting. MMA would be most practical because it should resemble more real life situations. Like I said it depends on the instructor.

There's not specifically an MMA school. There's BJJ, Karate, Tae Kwando, boxing, Kung Fu. There's one with BJJ but also boxing lessons which I'm aiming for.

Boxing/kickboxing for fighting while maintaining distance, which should be your primary objective in a street fight. BJJ or Judo for when your opponent gets close to you, in which case they’d be absolutely fricked if they had mo training. There’s really no such thing as a puncher’s chance when grappling.

That makes sense to me. I just wanted to ask as there's knowledgeable folks on here in the know. Seems learning boxing should be for the most part good, but if you know BJJ and boxing, someone gets their hands on you, you should be comfortable and confident to handle the situation.

That's what I was thinking. Main thing is imo is to avoid fights, but being trained and confident in stand up or someone getting their hands on you would go a long way.

Majority of fights end up on the ground or in close proximity. I would have my kid learn ground combat/wrestling and striking. BJJ and Boxing is perfect in my opinion. Wrestling club or HS. Why did you wait till 15? After a few years you are done with HS where most bullying takes place.

Well the truth is, my son is 11 and I'm drunk. But I've enjoyed his BJJ and boxing lessons and seeing him grow and just curious of all the bullies on TD opinions. That's the truth.

I’ve trained karate, aikido, bjj, judo, and kickboxing over the years. All except karate and aikido are legit self-defense systems. The art that scares me the most and is the most lethal, however, is judo. That’s the guy I don’t want to meet in the street.

I've heard that also, there is Judo around, but on the other side of town.

To expound on my earlier post I worked with a little dude (~5’8 150 lbs) who won a bunch of judo tournaments

No one fricked with him more than once

Well done then and wish your son the best.he should be well prepared to protect himself. I taught my sons to not bully and help those that are being bullied. They have done that and we have even received thank you’s from parents of kids they stood up for.

I think kids walking and acting with confidence will avoid a lot of bullying.
