But sorry those in some sort of management position usually are on salary and work 50 or more hours
No

I would definitely not say usually

I would say those in bad jobs or those that are inefficient workers

It’s silly on both of your parts to speak in absolutes.

I look around alot. I was in public accounting, givING me the perspective to look at multiple different companies across multiple different industries......

Trust me, in public accounting we worked those long hours. It was not the norm to have management at our clients stay past 5 (bankers past 4......)

Also, it is not the norm in the private company I now work for

This thread is hilarious

Usually the blue/white collar divide when it comes to these types of jobs fall along interest, aptitude. There are too many people overthinking here.

I've done both blue and white collar jobs, I'm not cut out for the oilfield or the cubicle. But I respect any person that finds their niche

I know a lot of college educated people in traditional blue collar jobs

No. You said managers who work 50 hours are either in bad jobs or are inefficient.

I work with upper management of small companies to one of the largest retailers in the world. The top top management like the Columbia of huge companies work a lot, but typical management gigs are not that stressful. They may technically work 50 a week but a lot of that is on the phone from their house between their two international vacations.

And I stand by that part of my statement

If your job requires you in a professional salary position to work 50 hours a week, meaning you are working 520 free hours a year, you have a bad job

Or, if your job doesnt require that, you just suck so it takes you that long, you are inefficient

I consider successful to not be a typical entry level position and to be some form of management.

There's definitely room between entry level and management that can be defined as successful, IMO. I don't know if I'd take a promotion to management, because I'm satisfied with my current income/life balance, IMO that is successful. I guess it depends on how you define success.

Is a manager making 75k, working 50+ hours per week at one company more successful than a "regular" employee making 100k, working 40 hours per week at another company?

It was the norm for most of guys I worked for in O&G. It was the norm for management in retail. It’s the norm for management in alcohol sales.

I’m not saying it’s the norm for everyone, but your experience, while probably vast, doesn’t indicate the norm for every industry.

One of the most ludicrous statements you’ve ever made.

Then those people need to get the frick out of their jobs

How anyone would let their norm be working 500+ free hours a year I will never understand

American workers have become schmucks

THe fact you think it is ludicrous to state you work for free for basically 500 hours a year is bad is part of the mental mindfrick the American worker is under

You keep saying this as if 40 hour weeks are the norm outside of punching a clock.

I’m commission and incentive based. More hours = more sales = more money. I don’t do anything for free.

They are. From what I saw, lying about hours worked is about at prevalent as those that lie about salary

People love to talk about their 55 hour work weeks

In reality, they were in the office for 43 hours

Still trying to figure out where your veiw is warped at, the engineering side or the operators side of things

I'm not sure either side is warped. I just dont think Ops and Technical should ever be equated or seen as interchangeable. To claim one side can do the others job is foolish.

If I wanted an engineer mentality for an Ops job I would have hired an engineer. Lord knows there are plenty shitty applicants that apply. I don't want someone reengineering a process or procedure on nightshift. I want a worker bee that knows when to speak up about the work conditions/procedure.

I don't want that same mentality in an engineer. I have that in my Ops guys.
