Gay men can't be bro country bc they don't appreciate girls in a full moon light down by the creek with ole George Strait on the radio.

I don't understand why there is so much hate for the current culture of country music.
Look, since the early 2000 music, in general, has gone more "pop". Heavy metal/alternative, gangsta rap, old country... They are all limited in terms of who they appeal to. People either like heavy metal, gangsta rap, etc or they don't but if you want to sell a lot of records you have to incorporate a sound & lyrics that the mainstream can identify with.
It hurts music in general, there are a handful of current performers who can't be easily be replaced, but most of these jokers.. they are successful not because they are talented or has created a type of music that only they could create, they are successful because they have a good marketing team. Think about Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson, Prince, Metallica, Guns & Roses, 2PAC, Biggy, George Strait, Eminem, Allan Jackson, Led Zepplin.. The list goes on and on.. Could you replace them? When a Cash or MJ, all of them.. When their song comes on, you know who it is.
Today, if the radio is on a country station, it all sounds the same. Yeah there are songs here and there that stand out, but for the most part, they all have similar beats, sing about the same shite, etc. You put a popular music station, you can hear a song for the first time and you have to look to see who sings the song because there are 2 o 3 possible performers who could be singing the song, because they all have similar sounds.
With that said, I don't get the hate for "bro-country culture". Its on par with the music industry in general.

I think the hate isn't as much for the music (even though it is dreadful) but for the hi-jacking of a lifestyle that many people in our area have embraced for generations. Most of the bro country converts were former sk8er boi's or gang bang wanna be's or whatever and they've just jumped on the latest and greatest trend. Precious few of them could skin a deer or run a trout line - they probably don't even eat deer or trout for that matter.

I had a Facebook "friend" that moved to Nashville to be a "songwriter" that always posted on Facebook about writing with so and so, hanging out in the honky tonks and loving the Tennessee outdoors, Yada yada yada. Basically trying to impress his friends and family from Iowa.
Anyway, one day he ask me to go fishing(there was a pond in his apartment complex) I got there and was mind blown that he didn't have a clue how to fish. It was like teaching a 6 year old. I figured because he was from Iowa, he knew a country lifestyle. Turns out he was from the suburbs and his wealthy family paid for his $1200 a month, one bedroom condo.
This same situation is repeated thousands of times with different "songwriters" all over Nashville.

Yeti sticker on a lifted RAM goes a long way.
The exurbs of DFW are bro-country central. Spend a week there amongst the natives and study their habits and behaviors.

It has no soul, but that could be said for most music today. I suppose "first world problems" are the real struggle today.

How the hell does someone not know how to fish? Did he know to bait or cast? I'd imagine he would have a time if he had to take his fish off the hook.

A few have mentioned cowboy hats. I don't find most wear cowboy hats.
Well country music isn't so much "western" anymore. Rarely do you hear a new song about rodeos and such. It's all about southern small towns and dirt roads. Lots of dirt roads.

Just drive with your tailgate down like the rest of these idiots blowing trash out the beds of their trucks. My street is a mess from that stupid arse song.

I guess he had never been taken or done it. Trust me, I was as mind blown as you.
