Getting my dad a new spinning reel. He's used baitcaster his entire life and is just starting to see the benefit of a spinning reel. The only spinning reel he has looks like it got drug up from the bottom of the bayou.

Last Christmas, my father told me what a huge disappointment I was. It's kind of his annual ritual, but this time I outsmarted him by drinking way too much before he told me. So when he got up in front of the family to let me know how much better his life would be without me, I came at him full throttle with fists flying. We tussled around for about thirty seconds before we both got tired, being the heavy smokers that we are, and then the heart-attack came. Now Pop is now stranger to heart-attacks, this would be his fourth, but for whatever reason this one was bad. And no matter what people tell you, they don't get easier. So long story short, we spent Christmas day in the hospital which isn't too big a deal since the food wasn't that bad and we made it there in time for "It's a wonderful life". But for the life of me I can't remember what gift I gave him that year.
So I don't know, a tie maybe?

My sister, brother and I all got together and ordered a brick gift package from the National WWII museum with our grandfather's (his dad's) name inscribed. You get a book and a few other things with the purchase.

I'll see what I can do. No promises, but I think that one might have made the cut. I'll put in a good word for you at the board of directors meeting. I see a bright future in your horizon

Got him a record player with a few vinyls. Led Zeppelin, The Doors, CCR, Fleetwood Mac, and the Grateful Dead. Hasn't had one since he was a kid and would never buy himself something like that. Gonna bring back a ton of memories from when he was younger.

North Face zip up jacket (he's always cold) and a fifth of bourbon.
I will say one year I gave him an American flag as the one that he was using was on the ratty side ... I think he was most pleased. He also loves socks from Cabela's (not that he can't get them but ...). Last year we gave him a sign (nice wooden one) for his camp with "Team _________" on it (what he and my brothers call themselves. THAT he really liked.

My parents hate spending money at restaurants. Usually get them a giftcard to Ruffino's...they love the Sunday brunch there.
