Surprised the HRE hasn't been mentioned. If there was a way to equalize everyone they would be right up there with the US and the 19th century British Empire. Both Hitler and Napoleon screwed themselves by underestimating Russia, in the process losing big chunks of their armies.
As for France and the RW, they used the US to embarrass the English. Without their warships the British could have evacuated/fortified/supplied anywhere close to the coast. We used each other...just as we helped each other with the LA Purchase.
