To be fair, I think it's more of a northern climate style of shoe. I wouldn't expect many people in the south to pick a lace up dress boot over a standard oxford/derby.
And the answer to the OP is black in my opinion. Definitely like the look of brown shoes with grey suits, but when you get as dark as charcoal, then you have to go to that oxblood/burgundy color and I'm not a huge fan.

The man makes the fit, not the other way around. Get what you think looks better, but honestly black boots and belt will probably look better lol.

You can get gray patent leather and it looks fantastic. Not sure how easily it can be had as a boot.

All I wear is gator boots with the pimped out Gucci suits.
