No, no overestimation, before we pulled out, according to books i have read, the Viet Cong was almost t-totally destroyed and the NV were in very bad shape. The liberals succeeded in buying the NV 2 years to re-arm and invade the south. After that they killed all they wanted, which estimates greatly vary but between 3-5 million people died because liberals in the USA were cowards. 3-5 million. All the effect in cambodia was even worse.

the liberals didnt do shite to keep us from invading the north. it was the decision made by our government to keep the war from escalating into world war three

Another myth of the Vitnam War is it was fought by poor, black, and uneducated draftees. This is simply not true.

Only 25% of all personel in Vietnam were drafted. Compare that to over 60% who were drafted during WWII

And as for race, 10% total were black, almost 87% were white, and the rest were other races.

75% of all men who went to Vietnam came from families with incomes above the poverty level.

Almost 80% of all men who went to Vietnam had a HS education or higher.

You are aware that one of the biggest liberals to ever work from the Oval Office was in power at that time, right? As for WWIII, the Soviets were not going to go to war over Vietnam. They'd support the North for sure. But that support was never going to be more than arms, supplies, and advisors.

you dont know that. once we invade the north, it shows escalation, and on their side of the world. our policy was always just containment. we tried to unite the entire korean peninsula, and then turned around as we got close to china for the same exact reason. we were trying to keep south vietnam from becoming communist while not escalating the war. all it would have took was one frick up during the invasion of the north and all hell could have broken loose

I agree..... But that means little to me... I have ALWAYS been against the Draft..

I don't believe this..........

This is irrelevant to the thread......

And this means what?????

Just 80%??? That's kinda scary.... What were the other 20%??????

you do realized the draft was not just for the Vietnam war, right? It had been in place since 1940.

Go look it up yourself then.

This is irrelevant to the thread......

It's been a long misconception about Vietnam that blacks represented a disproportionate number of soldiers there via being drafted at higher rates than whites. That's simply not true and the numbers prove this.

And this means what?????

This mean that the notion that the average solider in Vietnam was "poor" is simply not true.

Just 80%??? That's kinda scary.... What were the other 20%??????

The percentage of HS graduates in Vietnam was higher than the general public at that time.

Pretty revealing...

If the French had Huey's they would have won... They had a vested interest in colonization, therefore, a reason to fight.

We went for ideological reasons and continue repeating this mistake into the present.
