I cant imagine what you have been through. I pray that God gives you the strength each day to continue for your boys.

agreed...I have seen this as well.

I can't remember the last time I felt happy for more than a moment.
Just keep going to counseling and maybe talk to someone about switching medications.
I think most people who suffer from long term severe depression even have more than moments of happiness.

This is what bugs me the most. Same things I think about for 9/11 victims, plane crash victims, Holocaust victims, and those who commit suicide. I can't imagine the agony and emotional pain that goes into those last few minutes and hope that nobody here ever has to face that.

but once he did it and I found out, I saw the signs weeks before, and I never thought he was in that much despair. Him being dead was awful for me, but the worse thought s that went through my mind were how sad he must have been leading up to his suicide, and if he was scared when completing it. I still to this day think about that often, and it brings me to sobbing tears. I never want any one to feel that way whether I know them or not. It must be terrible.
I feel 100% this way about my sister.

My father in law took himself out by hanging himself with an electric cord up on a hill in the woods behind his house. Previous attempts were unsuccessful, but he finally found a plan that would work and he succeeded in ending his pain.
It is a selfish act when considering that your loved ones are left behind to deal with your loss. It is my thinking that while selfish, those that successfully take their own life are so far behind thinking of it in rational terms or degrees of selfishness. My father in law had an awful childhood, went to Vietnam and came home with a host of issues he attempted to deal with for the remainder of his life.
My father in law left behind a wife, two (2) beautiful daughters (including my wife) and a son. At the time of his death, he had no grandchildren. If he were alive today, he would witnessed the birth of seven (7) grandchildren.
It has been several years since his death and most in the family are left thinking of the sadness of it all, what he has missed and how alone he was at the time he took that angry March up into the woods.

Permanent solution to a temporary problem

This. I don't feel like I'm contributing to my family in the least bit. I'm always unhappy or angry. I'm tired of going to the doctor and counselor. I don't want to take any more medicine. I can't remember the last time I felt happy for more than a moment.

Should I feel bad for thinking this way?

Plenty of people feel sad and lonely all the time, but only a few that don't have the balls to confront life decide to kill themselves, I have felt lonely and sad many many times, but i don't choose to kill myself and take the easy way out, I choose to keep on fighting until i find an answer. Have balls and fight on!

It is a very complicated issue that can't be categorized without intimate knowledge of each person's situation. People suffering from severe depression encounter pain just as bad as the some of the worst physical pain you can imagine. For some it is the only way out of their agony at that time. Many can and will get help while others don't
That is a different situation than someone that ends their life because of temporary sadness after the end of a relationship or the loss of a job.

This was my ex-wife (RIP)
She effectively committed suicide by flat refusing to just eat the diet she was supposed to and take her medicine. It didn't matter what I did and I realized that I couldn't save her. So... I left and saved myself. I refused to stay and watch her slowly kill herself.
She died 4 few years later.

What are your thoughts on people who commit suicide?
Never really understood why people wouldn't feel sorry for someone who felt so bad in life that they felt that the best solution was to kill themselves. Imagine how bad that person has to feel...in reality I'm guessing none of us can really imagine how they feel in that moment.

Pretty tough topic to talk about. I agree with Gay Thanos...not every suicide situation is the same.
I choose to believe that there is always a way out, other than taking your own life of course.

Oh wow it's so simple! They just need to flip on their happy switches! Brilliant!

I always thought people were cowards for committing suicide. But, I never knew what it was like to be in their shoes until a couple years ago. If it wasn't for my faith in God and fear of where I would end up, I had a lot of bad thoughts and didnt care if I was around any more. So my stance has changed. It is wrong to do it and i don't support it, but I can understand how people come to the point where they hate life and don't want to face it anymore.

It's probably the most selfish act a human can perform. It crushes those you leave behind. I have no sympathy for people who do it.

I don't think you can wrap one idea around them all.
some people are so messed up its off the charts.
I hear people threaten or say they will if this or that does or does not happen, or that they would be better off.
I do not lift a finger. By and by, they don't.
So far. I would not feel guilty if someone did though.
Its on them to figure it out, or not.
I am glad some states allow assisted suicide.
