Baton Rouge has the State University.

NOLA is great, I just would never live there. I'm fine with the short drive I have, the more land I have and the less money I pay for it.

The earliest Carnival celebration in North America occurred at a place on the west bank of the Mississippi river about 60 miles (96.6 kilometers) downriver from where New Orleans is today; this Mardi Gras on the 3rd of March 1699 and in honor of this holiday, Iberville named the spot Point du Mardi Gras (French: "Mardi Gras Point").

I'd say the biggest con of new orleans is that there is a high likelihood of getting murdered while being in the city. The risk doesn't really outweigh the reward imo.
