My point was that they should receive no federal funding.
therefore...local funding?

It doesn't matter if people still use them, that's not how we determine the usefulness of something that is government funded.
They're a huge waste of money and the only people who disagree are the ones who grew up (middle school/high school) during a time when cell phones and internet connections weren't ubiquitous.
Libraries are unnecessary and a waste of tax dollars. In many cities they're simply a refuge for the homeless.
You can't get everything on a phone and the internet for free, legally. Sure you can torrent books, but that's stealing.
I'd argue one of the biggest root problems in society today is lack of education and knowledge. Libraries are a tool to combat that. Why wouldn't you want even a handful of people to be better educated? When we waste billions of dollars on other money-pits, you target the public library? Seems silly.
And more people still have no smart phone and 56k (because it's all that's available) than you seem to think.

Oh, did you already know that libraries were federally funded?

You can't get it from the library for free either. Someone has to pay for it. So why should that be me?

I assumed some some received some type of federal funding, yes
I don't think the majority of their money comes from federal funding though, and your link proved that

as I have already illustrated to you, this is such a weak argument

Link to where I said majority. Link to where I said that was the basis for my point.

You didn't say majority. Never claimed you did.
Never said it was the basis for your point either.
I am stating that your federal funding point is weak because the majority of their funding doesn't come from federal tax dollars.

That comes with being a part of society. Shared costs for the betterment (Roads, police, military, schools...). Taking aim at the public library just seems like it should be incredibly low on your list if your sole argument is it's a waste of money you don't want to pay for.
I feel like the trillions uncounted for by the pentagon would be a much better target.

Or on a smaller scale, the inability of a school like Grambling to ever vouch for missing money when it gets audited.
ETA: This is a similar argument to "I choose to pay for private school, why should I have to pay taxes for public school?!"
Or even better "I don't have kids, my taxes shouldn't pay for public school!"

Maybe we can live without libraries, people like you and me. Maybe. Sure, we're too old to change the world, but what about that kid, sitting down, opening a book, right now, in a branch at the local library and finding drawings of pee-pees and wee-wees on the Cat in the Hat and the Five Chinese Brothers? Doesn't HE deserve better? Look. If you think this is about overdue fines and missing books, you'd better think again.
Underrated post

My family uses our public library system every day.
We check out and read LOTS of books, the kids check out DVD's/video games, the kids attend weekly story time, and they even have a chess club.
My wife has 3 library cards (2 are in the older kids names) so that we can go over the maximum check out limit of 50 items.
I would guess at any 1 time we average close to 100 items checked out.
We don't have any homeless people sleeping in our library or having sex. I'll have to teach the kids about sex without the library giving a demo.
ETA: We use the Calcasieu Public Library system and our home library is in Iowa, LA. They have a small wonderful staff.

Just about anything you need is available on line. But it’s just not the same as going to the lib.
The same applies to going to Books A Million. More fun that buying on Amazon with the exception of the leaches that go in there, read books that are MEANT TO BE SOLD and put them on the shelves w/o buying anything.
