Whichever brand Phillip Morris introduces at a super low price, slowly raises that price over a couple of years, then jerks it from the market and starts over again with a new “special” brand.

I smoke and my brand was Marlboro until Honor Code kept raping smokers trying to squeeze out a penny everywhere he could and drove up the price of premium brands to @$7/pack.

I became tired of paying that on principle so I did a tour of discount brands to see if I could land on something I was OK with.

They were all horrible and I was about to admit defeat until I came across Senecas.

$4.50 a pack or so and every bit as good as more expensive brands.

So they still make picayune? I remember as a kid going to church with this old man who used to tell us these wild stories all the time that inevitably involved reminding us that he used to smoke 3 packs of picayunes a day when was a young man.

The last time I was in Plaquemine (10+ years ago) there was an old building with an ad for a local LA cig brand painted on on one wall. I have no idea if the ad is still there or was painted over.

Perique
quote:

Perique /p?'ri?k/ is a type of tobacco from Saint James Parish, Louisiana, known for its strong, powerful, and fruity aroma. When the Acadians made their way into this region in 1776, the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes were cultivating a variety of tobacco with a distinctive flavor. A farmer named Pierre Chenet is credited with first turning this local tobacco into what is now known as Perique in 1824 through the labor-intensive technique of pressure-fermentation.

I’m weird because I didn’t start smoking until I was 30. In my 40’s now so I haven’t been smoking long enough to be locked in on definite long term problems.

I’ve actually cut way back via vaping. Went from a pack a day smoker to two or three packs a week.

I’m antsy by nature and smoking suits me. I enjoy it.
