I was luck enough to rescue a Golden Retrievier a couple years ago, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Smart and loyal dog even with her rough past.

Don't get one because the dog would despise a Louisiana summer, and winter too really, but chessies are a badass dog.

We have a Bulgarian Weasle Hound and love that dog. She's the best.

Lot of factors for the dog as well...
You need to do some research into the animal yourself. Look at their temperament, needed activity level, etc...Stop being a lazy frick

Yup, Lonestar doodles. They were awesome to work with, make sure you get the bag of food they offer. They give you the 50lb bag for $25 I think, and once that runs out you can only buy that brand of food from select retailers. And it's usually about $50-55 for a 35lb bag

Nice!
Yeah, I've only been put on the list and everything (Since like late November). We're expecting to go and pick up in March/April. We're getting a red, F1 medium.
I saw the food recommendation on their website awhile back and saw they sell it on Amazon, so I'll likely use that. Good to know they'll sell us the first bag.
I only live like 40 miles from Weatherford so it appears to be working out perfect.
The significant other has crazy puppy fever

There's a formula for selecting the best dog for you.
You take your significant others weight and divide it by 2. So you're probably looking for a 140 or so lbs dog

Not a medium sized dog...but pugs are awesome little dogs if you have young kids. I've had my pug almost 10 years and even though I do not have children, almost every place I take him to, young children want to pet/play with him and he just sits there and lets them, loving all the attention and wagging his little tail.
They do shed a ton though and can sometimes be stubborn with some training stuff(esp housetraining). But very easygoing, fun personalities. They are very much companion dogs though, they want to be by you cuddled up next to you as much as possible. And because of the doublecoat they have(that makes them shed so much)...their fur is really, really soft compared to other dogs.

I always wanted a Husky but living in DFW makes no sense to have a cold weather dog. I have my heart now set on a White German Sheppard akin to Ghost from GoT lol...

Brittany's are awesome dogs. We got our old gal from the American Brittany Rescue organization. I was looking last night and they have some young ones located in the southeast that are in need of a home.
