What am I doing wrong with Zippo lighters and handwarmers?

I load the cotton with fluid and it lasts for like a day. And I can’t even get the handwarmers to light

Just soak your hands in the fluid prior to lighting.
If the fluid is evaporating, you’re either using the wrong fluid, or you’re leaving the cotton out of the lighter for a few hours after soaking. Never heard of it drying out quickly like that. No offense, but it’s fairly idiot-proof.

I might have exaggerated a touch on how quick it evaporates, but is seems quicker than expected. How often do you have to soak the cotton?

I had to recharge mine so infrequently that I didn’t keep track of it. A few weeks.
