I learned very early. About 8 years old. I was driving stick shift farm trucks into town at 13.
Started showing my daughter how to drive in my lap when she was about 6. She’s 11 now. She has motorbikes and can drive an suv. I want her to be an excellent driver and be safe.

7, I started keeping my son just sit in my lap and steer. He really liked it. I want to say I was about the same age. Definitely either a parking lot or a street with no traffic.

My girls were driving my Kubota side-by-side when they were 6. Transitioned them into my old F-150 (automatic) and by the time they were 11 they were driving it alone from one end of our property to the other.
But it didn't really translate well into driving on the roads, they were pretty nervous about oncoming traffic and driving around curves at first. Neither got their license til they were 17 but they are fine now.

7. I would get mine to drive down the driveway everyday after school, approx 400ft. Now at 9yrs old, hes pulling my boat out of the boat launch. I always have someone in the passengers seat incase shite goes sideways.

I live on a private road and let my kids take turns sitting on my lap to steer us home. They started that at 5.
Not entirely sure when I’ll let them try on their own but I guess as soon as they can reach the pedals .

I was driving a 1980 Chevy Scottsdale with a flatbed and 500 gal diesel tank at 10 years old fueling up tractors on the farm
It had no ac, motor mounts were broken so engine cocked sideways when you put it in gear, no brakes, burned a quart of oil every hour, no muffler, and leaked every fluid imaginable. Every morning had to fill it up with power steering fluid, antifreeze, trans fluid, and oil
