I never got paddled, but teachers had them too. Not just the principal. Some elementary teachers had them.

And bus drivers. I spent a few early years in a rural parish in the 70's. Some older kid was being mean to me on the bus when I was in 1st grade. After telling Rusty to leave me alone about 3 times to no avail, the bus driver pulled into someone's driveway, put the bus in "park", reached behind her seat and pulled out something that looked like it could be used for rowing a boat, and proceeded to tear that arse up with it.

I have no idea what ever became of ole Rusty as my family moved to the big city a year later, but he never even as much as looked at me the wrong way again after that

for us it was always the principal. and it didn't matter why you were there or if you were right/wrong guilty/innocent. if they had to be bothered with you, you were getting an arse whipping.

i think it may have been their fetish.

I got paddled and was grabbed by the ear and made to stand up. Stand at the black board with a circle drawn and made to keep my nose in the circle. Stand in front of the class and hold up a couple of books with my arms out stretched. But I only have a problem with one of the paddlings I received by a big young male teacher who his me so hard my feet left the ground. I would still like to have someone that much bigger than him hit them with all their strength a couple of times. Some never got whacked, others got them everyday. I don't think that it helped or hurt.

Once, a teacher sent me and one of my buddies to the principal's office for acting up in class.

When we got there, we were standing in front the principal's desk and told him why we were sent there.

Principal stood up, addressed my buddy and said "Alright, grab that chair" waving to a wooden chair across from his desk. My buddy proceeded to sit down in the chair.

The principal actually snickered a little, and said "No, son....", and he clarified while grabbing his paddle. We took our licks, but I told that story to all our friends later to great enthusiasm.

I think Don Hobby got me once ... don’t remember the circumstances but my mother was a teacher there so maybe she sent me.
