Tried to give millions to McNeese but his estranged daughter swooped in and took it all!

The McNeese State University Foundation is contesting the $15 million estate of Lake Charles businessman and philanthropist Robert Noland in a trial this week that has centered on his decision to leave almost everything to his once-estranged daughter, rather than the university.
Noland signed a will less than a year before his death, leaving almost everything to his only child, Amanda Noland Inzer. The decision was a significant departure from previous wills that listed the McNeese State University Foundation as the primary beneficiary.

To be fair $15 million is probably 10% of McNeese's entire endowment.
Is Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School named after his in laws?

Writing wills and notarizing them as a baby lawyer was low-key scary as frick for the possibility of something like this happening.
I never let others in the room when reviewing and usually wrote a memo to the file about our interaction in case I was ever called to testify about capacity.

All I can tell you is that I was introduced to the daughter in the elevator at the courthouse Tuesday and there are lots of local heavy hitters (like 10+ lawyers) involved in the trial.

It's going to be really hard for McNeese to prove he wasn't competent. For $15 million you shoot your shot, but they're almost certain to lose.

A few years ago when I filled out my malpractice reapplication, I put I like 1% of my practice was wills/estates b/c I'd do it as a favor for old clients and my premium went up like 15%. I no longer do them at all.
The attorney they're saying is lying is a very well respected guy who I think is retired but represented some of the prominent families and their closely-held companies. This has to be very awkward for lots of people.

I knew him. He was an interesting guy, to say the least. He owned Timberland Ranch in Dry Creek along with his Lakeshore Drive house. If a thought popped into his head he would often follow through with it.
He wanted fish (carp) in a little pond in front of his Timberland house so he flew to Florida to pick out some fish. He had a company that rented coaches, I heard people like J Lo rented them for tours. He would let employees choose their work truck, nice Ford F250 diesels.
Mark Chestnutt played at one of his parties along with a warm up dance band. Chestnutt was good.
He had a temper but he was always nice to me.

Off topic. Who is the most referred to lawyer by other lawyers in Lake Charles?

Cox, Townsley, and Baggett probably have the biggest market share of PI work in LC.
ETA: those are three separate firms. I’m not sure which would be most referred, but it’s probably one of those.

once-estranged daughter,
It was petty to include the once-estranged aspect of it. This makes the reporting seem biased to me.

He was friendly but kinda of eccentric. I would've thought he was worth more than 15 million. He once employed a chef to cook all of his meals fulltime which also lived at his residence. He also had a male and female maid/butler for the same time frame but they reported for work around 7. The big house1 in dry creek had a helo pad build so he could be evacuated in a medical emergency. His family once owned most of Powell Lumber and Farmers Rice Mill/ Agri-electric per Mr Noland. I would have thought he was worth in the 50 to 100 mil range. I think he had a brother that was lost at sea on a large private yacht.

Unless you’ve got a medical doctor who saw him shortly before he executed the will, who will testify that he was incompetent, not going to overturn the will. Even then, lawyer who notarized has incentive to say lucid interval, so they still lose.

1990 if I member correctly, his house on shell beach drive wasn’t completed when he went missing. Estate went to his nieces and Joe Dumars bought the house.
Guy was married 5 times and changed will like underwear so I do believe he was off. Jack Gray even stated Nolan led a bizarre personal life in his testimony.

His younger sister owns all of the companies. She put him in charge of negotiating contracts for long distance phone service. He was the twit of his siblings. Older brother Willis was the visionary and ran things until his untimely death in the Caribbean when his yacht capsized. Their mother is where the money came from, she was a King. Dad was a douche who only had any clout due wife's family.

Agree. It will most likely get appealed all the way to the LA S.C. The attorneys, for both sides, will be the real winner$ of the whole thing.
