boomer parents don't have the sack to cut them off.

Im still on the family plan, but thats it
cheaper for them to keep me on than go to a plan that isnt the family.

Baby boomers are suckas huh. Pay for cell phone and rent while millenials eat avocado toast for breakfast every morning.

I know someone who went overseas with his parents on a trip. Everything paid for including first class air both ways. I go on a trip or 2 with the in laws each year and we pay our own way on everything. We just meet them there.
Similar experiences with a few people I know.

The real question is why can't the Boomer parents cut the apron strings ?
Just maybe we want better for our kids.
But, mine were cut off after school.

As Americans age, more and more of the tax burden will be borne by older taxpayers. In 1997, 61 percent of all income taxes were paid by taxpayers over age 45. Today, that burden has jumped to 74 percent. The biggest increase has been in the tax share paid by taxpayers between 55 and 65.

Pretty proud I am a millennial making 6 figures and haven’t taken a dime from Mom and Dad since college (which I am very thankful for, scholarships didn’t cover everything)
....but of course that is only because I am a white male.

My parents paid for my college
And I’ll pay for my kids too

That's quite different than keeping them n a tether until they're in their 30s

25% is a good portion. He didn't say the most.

My parents give me approx $30k cash every year as a "gift". Does this count? I'm Gen X btw

millennials are typically defined as people born between the years of 1981 and 1996
This is way too wide a net to cast, especially for a stat like this. Big difference in a 23 year old getting some financial help, and a 38 year old.

Yea I know
Just thought I’d get hate for my parents paying for my 4 years

If your in-laws offered to pay for everything, would you turn it down?
Assuming they can afford it, of course. No sense in accepting cash and gifts from the parents if it means you'll be financially responsible for them later.

Yup. I was born in 86, and have little to nothing in common with people born after 90.

My in laws are loaded.
But they would never offer that.

On my wife's side, one niece has a business and marketing degree from TCU she received in 2017. Still lives at home and doesn't have a real job, although she teaches skiing instructions in the winter at Deer Valley, UT. My BIL and SIL just purchased her a new Jeep Renegade.
Their son is two years older. He's on the ten-year degree track, having moved from college to college, working part time at a resort as a waiter, but still living at home. They purchased him a customized, decked out Ranger pickup last fall.
On my side, a nephew, 26 years old, just got his first, real job and is moving to Dallas from Shreveport. His mom and dad are paying for his apartment, his utilities, his insurance, and his car note, "until he figures out how to fend for himself".
Their daughter, now 24, still living at home, just finally starts nursing school this fall. So they will likely have her at home at least another 2-3 years.
I don't get it. Myself and everyone I knew were all anxious to get out on our own, find our own place, and make our own way. Jeez, I hope Gen Z as a whole is better than this. Millenials suck at life as do the first few years of the Gen Z crop.

quote:I don't necessarily see anything wrong with this. That is different from a monthly allowance or something. It's basically a "gift" from their parents, not something that is needed to sustain their lifestyle. My wife is going on a trip soon with her mom and her two sisters, and her mom is paying for the whole thing. I would say part of it has to do with one of them probably not being able to afford it, and it would be weird to pay for one and not all, but also she wants to give the gift of a trip to her kids.

We also took her parents on a trip recently and paid their way, so it's not like we're moochers

You boomers in your 30s and 40s should be forced to pay us more after the way y’all ruined the economy
