Seems like people didn't like that he had new music and that he was wearing a shirt. The match was going well with Orton but McIntyre ran in to attack Randy.

no... quite the opposite... he was put immediately at the top of the card... injected into the McIntyre/Orton WWE Championship feud
and he was put over strongly... and even though he lost to Orton via DQ in his debut match... he gets a chance to immediately get revenge with a clean win this Sunday
but WWE did WWE him... changed his (very popular NXT) entrance theme to a generic blah BS (which apparently will be remedied on Sunday) and forced to put on a vest & baggy shorts instead of his normal ring gear b/c Vince doesn't want his top babyfaces sporting anything less than a 6-pack

Nah...that’s a regular Koopa Troopa. The Koopa Kids were Bowser’s kids. Had spiked carapaces.
