Looking to get my dad a home weather station for Christmas. He's never expressed an interest in one but I think he would enjoy it. Anyone have one they would recommend? Nothing too complicated.
I'm thinking about this: LINK
Thoughts?

Who needs a home weather station when you have the OT?

They're legit. I think the only thing you need to do is make sure the rain gauge is calibrated.

It's for my pops. He doesn't do the interwebs.

accurite is good enough for your basic home user. I've bought 2 for my dad and they work good enough. You just have to make sure they're placed properly.

how complicated are they to use?

Depends if they automatically get on the WiFi to dump their history to the PC app or you have to hook a laptop up to it.

They are good
Options you may want:
Connectivity to an app,so you can observe your weather from your phone.
Lightning detector
Make sure the model you choose has what you want.
Further, these are listed regularly on woot.com for cheaper prices than on Amazon

Make sure it has a self-emptying rain gauge.

If he doesn't do the WWW then that is probably a good one. I used a 10' long x 1" metal fence rail from Home Depot to mount mine to the side of my garage so its 5' above the garage roof line. The temp transmitter is underneath my 2nd story deck in the shade. The wind gauges on consumer weather stations are not accurate but the temp and rain gauge are spot on. I have an inexpensive Ambient Station that connects to the Weather Underground app which keeps all my daily data so I can go back and look at what happened 2 weeks or 2 years ago.....not that I do that. The one thing I wish I had is a soil moisture sensor that could talk to my station. Mine doesn't have that option but some of the more expensive ones do have that capability.
