Seriously, why can’t we rebuild the Saturn V with better hardware and go back to the Moon? It’s fricking pathetic we haven’t stepped foot on the Moon since 1972. We should have in the least had a 50th Anniversary landing last year, but we have yet to pathetically not have returned in over 50 years.

Sorry, time to get back into Cold War mentality. Get back to the Moon, plant a fricking American flag claiming it for the United States and a second flag with middle finger on it, and then go full space race telling China to go frick itself. It’s time to go back and deliver the ultimate frick you to the world and land on Mars in 15 years. frick this globalism, it’s time for an American crew to land on Mars and reinstate to the world how we’re uniquely better than them.

Why? We’ve been to the moon. Another trip would be a multi-billion dollar waste of time. Mars is the next big project for manned space exploration.

Because most of those ex-Nazis are dead.

Because establishing a Moon base would not only allow us to mine it, but it could be a launch base to Mars and cut the costs quite frankly. People don’t seem to understand the value of a Moon base.

All of that would literally do nothing to better our nation. The moon is a dead rock and Mars isn't much more.

Let's try something novel: use all of those resources to fix our own messed up shite.

Not happening.

There no one alive that even knows how to refuel one. They didn’t keep the manuals.

Plus the aliens get pissed when we get near their low gravity bases in the dark side. Kind of an uneasy truce. That’s why we unveiled the US Space Force flag just today.

I’ve got some original blueprints for the Saturn V from my father in law who worked for NASA in Huntsville back then.

Dude, everyone will use this excuse until it is too late. “Oh we have our own problems down here and can’t solve this”. What fricking generation hasn’t had its problems? This pandemic should teach us that we need extreme backup plans.

Sorry, I hate nothing more than “oh we have our own problems” as an excuse to not expand our horizons. If we followed advice people like you through history, we would have never left the cave. I really, really hate that line of argument.

For what? There’s zero reason for manned spaceflight until we can launch mass to orbit much, much cheaper,

Are you not aware the US plans on getting man back on the moon by 2024 as part of building infrastructure to get to Mars?

Unmanned test launch to lunar orbit in 2021

Assuming all of the trillions we are printing for corona doesn't price it out.

You’ve told me about that. Would love to see those blueprints. I don’t give a frick about cars and how they’re engineered, but I’m obsessed on how rockets are.

If the moon were made of cheese would you eat it? I know I would

Mine the moon for what? What resources does it have?

How does a moon base save costs? Would it not have to be constantly resupplied? The size of the compound needed to make that happen would be massive.

I've got the OG replica of the Saturn V (I don't actually know if this is true)

Sadly, all the NASA folks who actually got us to the moon have passed.

Full disclosure: Grandfather who worked with Von Braun passed in 2019 and dad currently works for NASA.

To the OP: I actually agree. The benefits that came from going to the moon far outweight "going to the moon". Velcro, Tang, Cell phones, etc. all came from/benefited from the science/process developed in pursuit of going to the moon.

ETA: Corrected grammar because I've had a few.

Dude, every god damn President since Nixon has had a 4 year plan to get back to the Moon and 10 years to get to Mars. No, I want names of people that will go and rocket tests. Sorry, but everyone has said the same fricking thing when we’re getting back to the Moon or going to Mars for almost 50 years. Not going to fly with me.

No need for the massive fuel weight and space to escape earth’s gravity. This would allow for bigger payloads for use on arrival at the next target.
