Beg to differ. I hate when it's dark before 5pm.

You know what's even worse? Still dark at 8 am.

Today - "Hell yeah, daylight savings time is permanent!"

5 Years - "Have yall noticed more cardiac deaths lately?"

That image showing days with reasonable sunrise and sunset is really interesting. I assume the vast majority of people on this board are in Texas and Louisiana. People are complaining about it getting dark before 5. If we go back to year-round standard time, it would not happen in either state. If we went to permanent DST, we'd have half the year where the sun rose after 7 am.

Would you like it being dark at 9 AM in the morning? That's what it would be at my house...

Actually, yes. I really don't give a damn if it's still dark at 9 or 10 am. I never look out my window till I leave my house. I'd much rather not go home from work in the dark at 5:30 pm.

How did you conclude that?

Because the tweet says suspend daylight saving time.. not extend it or make it permanent.

From what I recall last time this came up only congress can make DST permanent.

If we don’t Spring Forward & Fall Back, when do I change the batteries in my smoke detectors?

I think the problem is that we all know it's pointless in 2025 and yet we still do it. So the frustration continues.

Sunset here would go from 420 to 520 in the winter but it'd be dark until almost 9am

Most newer smoke detectors have longer lasting batteries that can last as few as 3 years and some that last 10 years. With a smoke detector battery lasting more than 10 years, you will replace the detector before the battery dies.

That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t test it or remove the battery when it chirps, or remove the battery when you want to smoke in a smoke free room or apartment.

Follow our avian friends and fly south for the winter.

4:20 sunsets are way too early.

Heck a 5:20 is too early for me.

Mornings may take some getting used to with 8 am sunrises in SELA for a few weeks.

At least we are in a happy median of the central time zone. It is not like western Florida or west Texas that really would get screwed in year round DST.

Schools may need to adjust take in times to accommodate year round DST.

I prefer standard time. It’s quiet outside by 7 pm or so bc people aren’t out walking and kids running around. Winter should be dark earlier bc it just seems right.

They implemented year round DST in 1974.

It sucked so bad they repealed it within a few months.

you make it sound like its impossible to change the school hours

just push the starting time up an hour during thanksgiving break, move it back at spring break

how difficult would that be?

Jimmah Carter did that and it didn't work. First two hours working in a plant were in the dark, on a day shift

Congrats to everyone on here who properly leaves off the “S” in

DAYLIGHT
SAVING
TIME

Irrationally gets to me like when it’s thundering outside and you see “lightening”.
