We have started living in a world where BS'ing can get you through

I feel humans have reached a point at least in the U.S. where all you have to do is "look the part, act the part, play the part" and you can get by. We have advanced enough as a society where there really are few people who do the grunt, manual labor work that is absolutely necessary. Two hundred years ago, if you were lazy and didn't have a good harvest of crops that meant you didn't take care of your family. Today, you can swipe left and right on tinder at work and still live a very comfortable lifestyle.

This is less true now than ever. Aristocracy in the last couple of hundred years held all of the power with or without merit. "the middle class" is larger now than ever worldwide.

There isn't one. It's nice to be in today's world. I wonder how nice it'll be two hundred years from now.

That's how I've survived.

This has pretty much always been the state of things for large amounts of people. I think the natural trend of human society is concentration of wealth and the resulting transmission of that wealth through inheritance rather than effort. America has always been a little different because there was so much space to fill up it created an added incentive for risk and work. Add to that the post WWII boom which created an expansive middle class. I think that trend is exhausted now though and we are reverting to the natural course of most societies. (And yeah, the social programs that reward idleness are part of it too.)

We'll always want stress to feel alive. It's why middle aged white women take xanax to do laundry.

When your govt pays you monthly because you have kids and provides free healthcare and free money for food and govt assisted living why the hell would you want to work?

Wouldn’t BS’ing mean you could do everything but “play the part”?

how to win friends and influence people came out a long arse time ago.
we started a while back.
joking aside (kinda), we've always been this way to some degree in every society. it does seem to get worse, but i wouldn't know for sure.

Feels that way but it eventually evens out. Hard work and passion for what you do pays off in the long run. There is no substitute.

Has always been that way, but I think the working world today as moved a little in the right direction. A best selling book in the 70s when I started working was "dress for Success", and a common phrase then was "dress for the job you want, not the one you have" that pretty much describes playing the part. Business today seems a little more concern with a employee's measureable results and not who looks and talks the part.

Because people today by and large are mouth breathing, window licking idiots.
