It’s 2023 and we are still doing daylight savings time.

This is the dumbest and most ancient event still going on in this country.

I'd prefer that we just stayed on standard time like AZ but it seems like the push is for the opposite.

Yeah not doing DST works way better for us in AZ.

Without changing time the sun rises the earliest at like 5 am in the summers and sets the latest at like 7:30.

In the winter rises at like 6:30 to 7:30 am and sets around 5:30 to 6:30

Yeah it naturally takes care of itself. Whats fun is the people that say you get less/more sunlight when in fact the sun doesnt give a shite what time it is and is up when its up.

Yeah it would stay daylight in South LA until like 7:40pm during peak summer if we never changed the clocks. I think daylight until almost 9 is too late and messes with my sleep. And I definitely don't want sunrises after 8am.

Yeah, we’ve figured out the joys of an early bedtime. Our dog has too. She likes to stand in the corner of the room by the stairs and stare at us at 7 pm saying she wants to go to bed. We’re up there pretty soon after now. It’s way before summer time sunset.

What's weird is when I was younger I was a night owl. Kids fixed that for me and ours are almost grown at this point.

We need to stay on standard time. I like natural light when I wake up. It’s hellish waking up when it’s still pitch black outside.

Now I have to see how it handles the doubled hour in the fall.

The anticipation is killing me.

No one in southern AZ wants it to be daylight and 110 degrees after 8 pm in the summer.

That’s why we stopped observing it

ETA: and I personally love the super early sunrises in the summer. I naturally wake up early even on my days off so it’s nice that it’s already sunlight.

I'm sure you remember but it's 93 degrees and humid at 8pm during the summer here. Only time that's pleasant is if you are in the pool.

Yeah I don’t miss humidity at all. At least here it is a noticeable difference at night or in the shade.

It’s all the years of waking up early during the week to accommodate the work schedule. I don’t have set 9-5 hours, but I do like to be finished at 3 pm M-F, so a 7 am start is what I prefer.

Yeah I've had to keep weird hours in my career at times. I still have to work at night a day or two per month usually which isn't as easy for me as it used to be.

Same. I've had to get up early and get kids processed in the mornings for 20 years so I might as well go to work early. My youngest can drive herself to school starting in August but I can't sleep late anymore anyway. I might start working 6:30-3:30 instead of 7-4
