The VA in NOLA is actually really good.

That is actually quite encouraging to hear. Quite contrary to a lot of what I've heard.

Although I've had full benefits available for 25 years I've not used them but once as I've had full private insurance for almost the entire time and won't take resources away from those that do not have other insurance.

Combat vets are a small percentage of “veterans” taking up VA benefits/resources.

I wouldn't be opposed to having a "Vets" board. A place for vets to go when they need help.

I respect anybody who has served, but I’ve met more vets who play the victim card than otherwise. My granddad was in a special unit that was one of the first to arrive in Japan a month after we bombed Hiroshima. He flew right over it and saw the wake of the destruction.

He witnessed first hand the absolute worst of human destruction. Not once did he ever complain about any of it.

Quit being a victim and thank god you made it home because many did not.

And as many have said, there are an unimaginable number of resources for vets.

Stop going, you’ll be better off. Eat better, get off meds, and talk to those who you value. Much better than the VA bullshite.

IMO close all the VA medical centers and give them unlimited access to any hospital.

I posted on this a week or so ago. Read the abstract below, and understand why even a whiff of red flag laws makes everyone with a brain wretch a little bit.

Different article than I originally used, but same broad strokes.

quote:

From The Washington Post: “One company advertised the names and home addresses of people with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress or bipolar disorder. Another sold a database featuring thousands of aggregated mental health records, starting at $275 per 1,000 ‘ailment contacts.’

For years, data brokers have operated in a controversial corner of the internet economy, collecting and reselling Americans’ personal information for government or commercial use, such as targeted ads.

But the pandemic-era rise of telehealth and therapy apps has fueled an even more contentious product line: Americans’ mental health data. And the sale of it is perfectly legal in the United States, even without the person’s knowledge or consent.”

And yes, one can be sure the VA is exchanging data with private entities including data brokers, contracted health facilities, etc.

more vets who play the victim card

And nearly all of them were REMFs I bet, from any service.

VA disability is abused and it is easy to get 100%. Some of the disabilities are just based off what the veteran says and can’t be proven to be a lie.

Speaking only for myself, I am okay with what the country and her citizens do for us vets. I'm a recent retiree, though, and I was neither a complete frickup nor got completely fricked up. I imagine life is considerably tougher for those two demographics.
My biggest recommendation to the people who want to do more is to hire young veterans and Guardsmen/Reservists. The frickups will wash out quickly, but the rest should have decent work ethic, ability to adapt, and can be challenged to meet their potential.

I’d disagree and more people should probably rate benefits according to 38 CFR Book C. Depending on the disability, documentation, etc. If a service member went through there and looked at each threshold, I’m pretty confident to say with exam and documentation per condition it could be met very easily. That doesn’t mean it’s handed out

There’s always 2 types of ppl who get bent out of shape over this. (1) Service members who try to bullshite their way and get denied and (2) civilians who have no clue.

Of course I’m a veteran and this will sound biased but anyone who honorably served should be taken care of. Less than 1% of the population has served over time and roughly 7% of current population are veterans.

If anyone needs help with this, seek out your local VA rep. Even with a zero % rating of one condition the VA can be used. < prime example of how many ppl don’t actually file.

What I have found really surprised me.

I would have thought the VA system was pretty similar from state to state.

My experience could not be more different.

The VA system in Arkansas, my home state, works against veterans. Actively.

In Missouri, there are folks who try to help.

I could not agree more that many veterans need help navigating the system, especially in states where the bureaucrats, worse than not lifting a finger to help, actually prevent them from getting the help they need.

Negative. I tried to sign up for VA health care a few weeks ago and got an email stating that I made too much money last year and they won’t enroll me because of that.

the pussification of the military

I've been walking around with a broken bone that didn't heal right in my left knee and a completely torn meniscus in my right knee -- plus the broken left leg caused by a fall because of the aforementioned torn meniscus -- for 13 years that VA admits I got in Iraq but won't fix.

So, yeah, tell me about being a pussy.

Would you agree that's an issue?
Get blown up, of course should be taken care of.
Drive supply truck, never firing a shot or being shot at?

Big difference in the two.
