Summers are hot in the south. Keep the house comfortable and deal with the extra on your bill.
You think northern team message boards talk about how brutal it is in the winter trying to keep the house warm using similar tricks?

I sleep with my a/c at 69-70F.
When I get up in the morning I crank my a/c down to 65F. When it hits 65F in the morning I'll bring up to 67-68F.
It will keep my apt pretty cool until mid-afternoon and then my a/c will run the remainder of the afternoon and into the night just to keep it around 72F.
Living in an apt I don't have control over insulation, window treatments etc. Having a huge vaulted ceiling doesn't do me any favors either in the summer.

I've come to the realization that there isn't a damn thing you can do to keep your house under 85 all day in South
Lol actually there is. It's called insulating your house properly. 85 is ridiculous

That's not very much. Standard attic insulation is R30+

Easy. All you have to do is open your refrigerator and freezer and run an oscillating fan in front of it. The fan will add a nominal amount to your energy bill, but that will be offset by less work on your A/C.

try the Popsicle method. every morning before you leave, put 5 Popsicles in each room of house. helps keep things cool during days heat, when get home toss back in freezer.

100 doesn't bother me one bit when I'm outside. I don't even think about it. But, 77 bothers me when I'm inside

the AC runs most of the day
It sounds like you have an old/inefficient A/C. What brand and how old is it?

You might as well have just bought a new house for the same price
