Watching the show Worst Roommate Ever

I’m on the third episode. It’s a decent show. That said, how fricking stupid are people?

Who meets a stranger and decides right away to give them a large sum of cash for an investment. This isn’t exactly an Edward Jones office.

Also, two girls from Texas decide to move to Chile after graduating. They want to explore a new country, establish themselves, become cultured, all that bullshite. Naturally, they find a place with random roommates from around the globe. The bad roommate is known for borrowing money and not paying it back, but these girls feel ok handing the same guy a check for a month’s rent at a condo, sight unseen, because he convinced them he is an investor.

I’m not saying they deserve to be scammed and whatnot, but they completely set themselves up. Is it common for people to be this dumb and gullible with their own money?
