Why are they all gargantuan, or have all kinds of shite about them written all over the face?

I want one but cant find one I like.

Then get a regular Casio. There are literally hundreds to choose from. If you can't find one it is probably a "you" problem. Millions of people wear one

MSAR. I have an automatic one. 10 years of continuous abuse, one service at 10 years and still looks / functions fine.
Are you a mechanic or hands on job? Seiko autos won’t hold up to me. I need another balance/mvt in my main watch currently, will be #4, I get about 18 months out of a movement lately. I’m sporting a Casio A168W1 currently, but don’t like digital because it takes two hands to check time in the dark. And the 12/24 button gets pushed by my wrist, that button needs to be flush.

Mechanic-adjacent and very active. Welding, electrical work, mechanic work, fishing, hunting, etc. Its maybe been off my wrist a total of 10 days the last 10 years, excluding the week it was gone for service.

Tritium is where its at. The only problem I have, and it took me a long time to figure out, is itll get magnetized when I have to work around large (like 4+MW) permanent magnet generators and start running a little bit slow, like a minute slow a month. I also sometimes wish I had gotten the larger 41mm version, although the 38mm was really the right decision.

Im looking to sell it just because of the whole problems around big generators thing.

My Sports 5's have been my beater/yardwork/auto/welding watches for years and both are ticking along fine.

Casio G-Shock GW6900-1 would work. Solar powered, links up with an atomic clock so that it keeps perfect time, not huge, and $100. I had one and it was a good watch. That said, I'd take a solar powered dive watch any day over a less wearable digital watch. I have a Vaer that is great, my son has a Citizen that is decent but not conservatively styled enough for me, and Seiko offers a few options as well.

Man if youre tearing up Seikos you might actually genuinely have a use case for a rolex.

I do alot of that stuff often and havent broken a decent watch yet. Oddly, all I've broken so far that I can directly recall was a timex expedition in college.

Had a Mudman. Looked nice. But it’s huge. I literally hit it on everything. Got rid of it for that reason.

It’s not the wrist width I’m talking about. It sits almost an inch off my wrist. It’s just thick and bulky.

It’s the reason I’m not a big fan of G-shocks.

Yea. I dont see how i could fit it under a sleeve comfortably.

The screen isnt that big. I dont think they need to be that huge. That screen, G shock durability, and the size of a normal 40mm dive watch would be great.

I believe g-shock now makes watches with analog (hands) and digital displays. Quartz movements but worth getting the battery changed.

Marathon has been mentioned. Nothing wrong with them except they can be thick.

OP mention a price point yet??

That just seems absurdly stupid to me. If youre gonna have a digital screen, why not have the whole thing be digital?

Suunto Core is pretty cool, big but has a
Compass, altimeter, etc but will eat a 2032 battery in 10-12 months.

Mine's been through days running a chipping and demolition hammer removing floor and bathroom tiles and driving ground rods. The crystals are scratched and chipped, scraped weld spatter from the cases, still work.
