I acquired this Seiko 6139 today from my late uncle. It's in working order and by doing a serial number lookup, I see it was manufactured in July 1971.
I find it really neat and enjoy the colors.
Any of y'all have any reviews on this model?

Look up Seiko Pouge and you will get all the information you ever want.

A variation of that watch (there are several) is the only Seiko I really desire for my collection or accumulation is more accurate.

I think the bigger historical issue is that it MAY have been the first automatic chronograph period. It is a tough call and depends on how you define it.

Seiko, Zenith and Chronomatic group (Heuer, Breitling, and Hamilton) all are in the mix.

BTW if anyone ever runs into a silver dial version of this watch with Water Proof at 9 on the dial, lemme know. It is my Seiko grail. I have been looking for a silver proof dial for years.

I have a 6139-6005. I bought it in 1973 and it still keeps excellent time. The only difference I see between the two is mine has a blue face and yours appears to have a different band.

Same model as mine. 6139-6005

I read what I could find and really find the first in space pretty cool. I do think the band may have been replaced. I may find some nylon bands and maybe a correct metal band to put on it. I do plan on keeping this watch

That's great. Keep it and pass it on one day. I have had mine cleaned and the crystal replaced a few times. The band was replaced about ten years ago with the original style. It has been around the world with me and other than being a little on the heavy side, I have nothing negative to say about it. Enjoy it.

You are correct. They came with 3 bracelets in the US, I like the Stelux because I think it fits the character of the watch better and doesn't look like an Oyster bracelet.

Anyone know of a good watch repair or jewler that can give this watch a once over? It is working fine but the buttons stick a bit when trying to use the stop watch part of it. It may need a good cleaning.

I am in with a bid of tree fiddy.*

*What is a legitimate used watch site I would search to find one of these? Must have one now that I see it.

LINK

I think if you follow the above link you will get an authorized service provider.

If you are in New Orleans - The Watch and Clock Shop at 824 Gravier downtown have given good serviced when I've stopped in and I think Seiko is one of the primary brands they offer.
