I graduated from LSU. I just didn’t have to go to Southeastern first because I was too stupid to get in the first time I tried.

Heard a story about a regional Marriott exec purportedly telling back office/corporate folks bitching about their stagnant salaries vs. rising wages for room cleaning/maintenance staff that they should "shut up" because "you can easily be replaced by an app but an app can't make beds or clean toilets"

Ain't nobody hiring a trash truck driver for $90k. They pay their rolloff drivers about $45-50k.
Pay me $90k and I'll do it, I want a company car, mental health days, etc.

The 4 year degree and student loans have to make sense, even if some make no sense at all.

The avg driver probably makes $35k to $50k depending on Frontload, rear load, side load, boom truck, or Roll off.
Hoppers use to make $10 to $20 hr.
Some companies gave them x dollars a day.
Some companies may throw in a safety bonus.
Some pay drivers & hoppers hourly, but if they finish their route early still pay them for the shift.
There are mechanics and drivers making $90k or more. They also been with the company in a skilled position for well over 10 years. Some been with WM or one of the big companies for 20 years.
They can only work x amount of hours a week to not get in trouble with DOT. People with less time in service don’t make as much due to lower hourly rate.
Mechanics make more due to unlimited overtime, lack of techs, trucks run all day with heat build up means things break, and might make more on the night shift.
Supervision and higher usually do well. Also put in a lot of hours and sometimes weekends or nights.
I made good money buying into a small company that was bought out by WM. There was three owners, besides me and we all came from a large waste transportation companies. I helped manage the night crew in the shop. I would come in at 2 pm and sometime not leave until 10 am the next day. Most of the times I left between 12 am and 3 am.
Quality of life sucks, some people like it.
Money I made off my business partners selling the company made up for it.

Some people never leave.
Had older sister that was well rounded. She come in at 3 am and ran her front load commercial route. Be done by 8 am. Customers loved her and people left her Xmas cards and money. They paid her 8 hours for 5 hours of work.
One company I know has a guy 75 yrs old still working on trucks as a tech. He won’t leave as he claims it easy and likes working. Mostly does diagnostics on the truck and his helper does the manual labor. This guy making around $75 hr. Shows up in the evening and works until midnight. He also been with one of the bigger companies for over 30 years.

What if I got a stay at home corporate job for $60k, then drove a truck for $90k?
I could do both jobs at the same time!

If you are a front load driver and depends on market you can.
They usually run at night or early mornings to get in and out of businesses. Dump at the landfill when it open. Then do PM on the truck and go home.
Harder to see power lines when lifting cans and not back over stuff at night.
Usually pay more for good front load drivers.
