the biggest loser alcoholics I've known in the last 20 years have all been nurses. They get fired from one place, sometimes for stealing from old people, and just find another job somewhere else. It's a profession with way too little self policing and way too many frickups. I am seriously in fear if I ever need a nurse to take of a family member or me later in life.

Seriously. Ask literally anyone that works in a hospital and they’ll tell you that nurses are their best friend. I’d be worthless without them

Yep, good/happy nurses = everything runs smoother

You don't know anything about what you are talking about.

You can lose your nursing license if you get a DUI or test positive on a random drug screen. You have to basically fight and pay $$ to keep it. Some state boards make you take part in a special program where you are restricted where you can work as a nurse and are not allowed access to narcotics (another nurse has to give your patients pain medications). Some make you go through rehab to keep your license.

I've had former coworkers go through these programs. One used to work nights in the ICU. She had to work days on a regular floor until she was done in the program. I think it took her a year or two before she was cleared. Had to pay for all her drug screens as well. They make you take them at least weekly but can call you on any given day and tell you to get tested (and you have to pay out of pocket for it). It is a lot of hoops to jump through...but obviously worth it if you get to keep your license.

If a nurse was truly found doing something criminal (such as stealing)...this would have been reported to their state board of nursing. Any employer would verify her license was current and could see if he/she had any charges against them. The board reviews all cases and will decide if disciplinary action is taken.

All nurses with suspended licenses or disciplinary action taken are on a list that is made available to the public.

ETA: You are also required to report ANY criminal charges against you(including misdemeanors) to the board when they happen. You can lose your license if you don't self report this. The board then has you come before them and review your charges and will decide what happens to your nursing license. Fingerprints are required to be submitted to the board when you first apply for a nursing license.

Maybe this happens, I've never seen any of them sweat it. The demand for nurses is just so high right now (and I assume going forward) that a lot of this just gets ignored.

I enjoyed seeing the memes at first. Imagine being a member of a profession so easily triggered.

Interesting that you can't earn a medical doctorate online but you sure as hell can get that DNP on the net, lol.

A large part of medical school can be done online. Pharmacy can be done online. Nurse practicioner can and is done online. In todays world with recorded lectures and skype live lectures, there is no reason to show up in person to a lecture.

My GF is in NP school and she has to do clinical rotations every semester in addition to online lectures. They’ve already done the majority of on hands things they need to know how do in nursing school (how to take a history, physical, etc). All med students are required to have is a bachelors degree, no hands on experience. So yes it’s important to actually have them show up labs and A&P when the dissect cadavers because they’ve never done those things. Aside from that, regular lectures can be done online just like NP

Your statement is bogus. No American medical school degree that is accredited through LCME is an online curriculum. Not one.

Meanwhile I can link you to several online DNPs.

My GF is in NP school

Ah. It all makes sense. Show her how you defended her profession online. Instant cred!

Dare I say it's likely the same individual who came here 1-2years ago trolling about a bill in the house that would give nurse practitioners full autonomy. I didn't believe he/she was a physician then nor do I think this person is now.

The more it posts the more I agree with you.

And I had totally forgotten about that poster who went on and on and on about how horrible it would be for NPs to have full autonomy even in rural areas struggling to have an adequate number of primary care physicians to care for it's residents. That guy was a miserable sack of shite.

I respect nurses because most of them do shite I never wanna do and get paid pretty well for it.

The NP argument needs its own thread.

God you are boring.

Starts thread about state senator being quippy regarding lazy nurses, b*tches when several people agree with this fact-based stereotype, acts like she works harder than anyone on planet earth, encounters doctors who say "nope you don't", admits she isn't a nurse anymore and now just pushes paper and works banker's hours, gets a few saps to knight for her bc they are similarly insecure RNs or related to/dating RNs, concludes dissenters must be some other identity from some other thread long ago or bots or something/anything but someone who actually thinks you're useless.

You are predictable white-walker.

Jeez troll. You don’t even read. Nowhere did I say that Medical schools are online. I said they can be aside from labs. I’ve worked with plenty of residents and they all skip class because its pointless

Leave the DNP tangent, dude I dont care about your GF's online noctorate. I know exactly how NPs are trained. And yes, huge swathes of them have entirely online degrees.

Surely you understand the difference between tegrity class recordings and university of phoenix, lol. Right?

Holy shite you arrogant prick. I just went back to read your posts in this thread. Are you really one of those narcissistic a-hole docs that thinks it is okay to belittle everyone in the hospital setting around him because you went to school for 8+ years? Were you bullied in high school and have little man syndrome or something? Or do you truly have a God complex? I've met a few docs like you in my short career already

Stop shitting on other medical professionals' careers in an anonymous online message board. It makes you look like a bitch just like all of the nurses who keep posting memes about playing cards and most of the decent docs I know who are in touch with reality would frown upon your condescending posts.

ETA: Looking forward to your smart arse reply

Nice. Righteous anger suits you. No actual point to make and nothing to refute.

Rabble rabble, incoherent rambling, rabble rabble.

Feel better now? Did the big bad doctor make your feelers hurt weal weal bad? Just let it aaaaaalllllll out.

All up in arms bc I pointed out lsunurse isn't a clinical nurse like she initially portrayed, and lsusetheforce isnt an anesthesiologist l8ke he portrayed, and waydown's gf can get her degree completely online unlike an MD which he downplayed. Facts are tough to deal with, I know.
