Walmart is trying to support organic farming
is the cost difference a supply-chain issue or a production issue?

I used to know a guy that plants about 20 acres of "organic" garden and makes like $50K per year off of it. That same 20 acres would maybe clear 1/3rd of that it he didn't claim for it to be organic.

Believe it or not, but its the same exact shite as the stuff that comes from the corner produce stand, mom and pop grocery store, or *gasp*...WALMART.
Want to know how I know? I used to drive for a refrigerated trucking company a couple of years ago - and guess what? I'd get 30,000 lbs of the same exact stuff and deliver it to the WalMart grocery warehouse, the independent grocery warehouse, and the Whole Foods grocery warehouses.
ITS THE SAME shite. Get used to it.

Definitely can't get all the craft beers
Obviously a lot of it is the same, and I wouldn't do all of my grocery shopping there. But you can get stuff at Whole Foods you can't get at Wal Mart

is that why when researchers offer the same wine to people and give 2 prices, the subjects claim the one that is said to be more expensive is the better tasting wine?

Ignorance is bliss....this mindset is what is wrong with this country and more specifically the south. My parents consider themselves to be health conscious and educated eaters, yet they still cling to this notion of "organic" being a gimmick. You have to read your labels. I know this takes time and effort, but it's worth it. There are some products are worth buying and others that are not. Dairy and proteins are worth it, particularly proteins. C.A.F.O's are horrible and disgusting. As for produce, you can make up your mind on that. The reasoning behind buying organic produce is G.M.O's, which there is no real definitive evidence one way or the other as to negatives, while there are definite positives. The other reason is pesticides, to which there are most definitively negatives, but you can find pesticide free non-organic produce. Most processed items are not worth the price and only partially use organic products, unless it says USDA certified 100% organic.

Because you come to that sudden realization that you're getting ripped off when you're paying $10 for a pre sliced pineapple when everyone else is getting the whole for $3 and slicing it on their own...but OMG ITS ORGANIC AND FRESH.

doesn't mean the inherent and/or perceived taste is different, it just that means confirmation bias is a legitimate, applicable theory.
